Melody's adventure through many towns

Postby Melody » Wed Aug 27, 2014 7:13 pm

Every Saturday, I bring my bird somewhere. Little kids LOVE her. She caused quite a ruckus in Blackhawk about two weeks ago. NO SCHOOL FOR ME!!!!!! (Melody's eating greek yougurt right now  my sister's feeding her it..)
We went to Diablo Vista Park! Melody hated it. She would stick close to me the whole time.( Poor Melody. MY sister took the ice cream from her. Her face looks so adorable; mix between shock and rage. She's trying to eat the keyboard I'm typing on now.) A few kids saw her, and one would just stay there looking at Melody. The kids all pet her and said stuff like " I like your birdie" and stuff like that. There was( STOP FEEDING HER YOUGURT!!!!) Anyway, we went library. MELODY WOULDN'T SHUT UP! All the kids kept looking at me.(you would too if I had a chirping shoebox) I had to take her to the bathroom and take her out to shut her up.( Melody, if you keep pressing that button, this computer will go into sleep mode, okay? You got that?) We went to Baskin'N"Robins ( Melody's favorite place) She ate ice cream. Melody: I just died and went to bird heaven :tears of joy: Then she had to stay in my pocket at the supermarket. When we got home, she fell asleep immediately.

That is a lot of excitement for a parakeet, you need a better box for her or perhaps a small cage for traveling about in. I am thinking of air flow as well as the temperature inside a shoebox. Also while a little yogurt is good, the ice cream is really high in sugar and fat, mine get a little once in a while too and they do love it but it isn't really good for them.

I realize you are a young child but, please, reconsider the diet and the trips outside. Little birds don't do well with such things. For one thing, most definitely no ice cream, yogurt is not so bad per se because of a low content of lactose (only animals that are mammals and drink milk when babies have the enzymes to digest lactose and birds are not mammals) but, nowadays, yogurts are full of sugar, preservatives, etc. so no yogurt and, most especially, no ice cream which is loaded with fat, cholesterol and sugar (very bad things for a bird to eat). And, although the trips seem like a great idea, they really are not, my dear. It's highly stressful for a teeny, tiny bird to be in a strange environment and, going by your description, it seems poor Melody is clipped and put in a box, two things that would add to the stress. Are your parents aware of the bird's diet and trips outside? Because, if they are and approve of them, they might want to do a bit more research on budgies.

Yeah... I didn't want to take her to the other places, just to the park so she could walk around and see the environment and sit in the trees, but my dad forced me to go to the supermarket and everything, and I had to take poor Melody along. She doesn't like to be at home alone and gets grumpy if I don't take her SOMEWHERE, but thanks for telling me( She doesn't travel in the box, I hold her and let her sit on my shoulder. Melody likes going places, and particularly likes the supermarket, because she loves people and travels all the time. Thank you for telling me about the ice cream and yogurt thing. Melody LOVES ice cream, but I don't give it to her, and she got a taste when my sister gave it to her that day. Now she will eat it anytime and it's hard to keep it away from her. I did not know about the yogurt. Is plain Chinese yogurt okay?

I have never heard of Chinese yogurt, so I can't answer that for you. My Senegal and my Grey both love ice cream, so I know how hard it can be to keep them out of it. Since my birds fly, the only way for me to keep them out of it is to have it only when they are in their cages.

Melody can't fly, but she jumps really far when she wants something. She also climbs very well, and you can't feel her coming. I don't know about Chinese yogurt, but to be on the safe side I'll keep it away from her.

I know that I will never clip my birds wings as I feel that it is just to important to their well being to do that. I know that there are also strong opinions on both sides of the clipping debate, and I am not trying to draw you into that nor am I going to attempt to change your mind on this, but I am a curious sort so I am interested in why you keep your birds wing clipped. Would you mind sharing with me about this?

Carrot contain beta carotene which is the precursor to vitamin A and this is a vitamin that most parrots need and don't get enough of in the diets that we feed them. :gcc: :danicing:
