Well they make decisions, about who they like and dont but it is based on your actions, they dont care if your house is messy, what you wear for fashion or what kind of car you drive....lol

No, they don't. To them, a kind person is the most beautiful, intelligent, successful, rich and whatever other criteria we use for judging people favorably.

In my opinion, the biggest difference between people and animals is that, 99.99999% of the time, if you give an animal love, the animal will respond in kind... and you can't say the same about people.

Well, I was looking through this chain again and the picture of Isis is so sweet. She does look like a very sweet bird. I have had many parrots that i have been close to and loved. I started with rehomed parrots in 1977. But of all of the parrots i have had, I fell in love with my Red Belly Female instantly, and we just plain adore each other. I have really liked all the other Red Bellies I have come across too, but Gaugan just seems so extra special to me. I have always been able to take her everywhere with me, she thrives on travel and rides in the car. I have often wondered what she likes so much about them, maybe she thinks we are travellng lke a flock in a big protected cage. She is so happy when I tell her we are going for a ride in the car. She dances and spins and peppers me with kisses the moment I pick her up. in the car she talks and tickles my ear. Everytime the car stops she runs down and starts kissing me and play fighting. As soon as the car starts she runs up to where she perches just over my shoulder. She loves to sit on the sterring wheel and watch people, birds and cars. I remember when she was two, and how sweet she was, she already had a big vocabulary by then. Somewhere between 3-5 years she changed from a bird who acepted all the other birds I had to a bird that did not like one of them. There was a couple years she had to be kept away from that cockatiel. It was about 6 years of age she started doing the courtship dances for me every year around sept to oct. This was also the period she would be less tolerant of other people. But come late october she was a sweetie again. She is one of the big joys of my life. I think you will have a wonderfull life journey with Isis.

And it might even get better because I found somebody giving up two male redbellies (I've been looking for one since she came to me a year ago). They are keeping an older female and I am trying to convince them not to give up both males, to keep one for her... we'll see how it goes.

SUCCESS!!!! I found her a boyfriend! The people who were giving up the two males are keeping the younger one and I will be coming over to get the older. We had been corresponding back and forth so I told the lady about the African gray telomeres study so they are going to be keepin him as a companion to her YAAAAAYYYYY! The one I am getting is 9 years old (I think) and his name is Romeo (good omen for a love connection between him and Isis, isn't it? :D )

I am going to pick him up next week and I'll try to post pictures of him and a bit more info as I learn it.

PS It's a bit early after getting Linus and I had to think hard over this but I decided to do it anyway because I've been looking for a male redbelly for a year now and I was afraid they would find somebody to take both of them and leave the hen on her own.

Well, my SUCCESS! ended up been a Bush's Mission Accomplished! I went to get him yesterday and came back empty handed because the lady did not have ad 20 year old female redbelly and two males, she had a 20 year old NiamNiam and a bonded pair of redbellies! She had gotten the NiamNiam from a bird flipper who told her it was a female redbelly so, when she got the other two and one looked just like a male redbelly is supposed to but the other did not get all the orange the first one had, she thought it was just the way he was when, in reality, it was not a male at all but a female with the little orangey/tan spots in her belly that they have. So, needless to say, I apologized profusely for wasting the lady's time but I told her that I refuse to split up a bonded pair. She was quite surprised to find out that they were male and female and was very gracious about my refusing to split them - she also said that, if that were the case, she might keep them together

As soon as I saw the 20 year old, I knew there was something quite not right with the 'redbelly' identification. For one thing, she was the tiniest bit too big (but I did not really think much of this because, as we all know, parrots vary in their size the same way that people do), for another, she had no orangey/tan spots on her belly -and that I found VERY curious- but, what really made me think it could have been a different species was the black 'mask' - I had never seen a redbelly with a black mask! Her orbital rings were black instead of grey as they are in the redbellies and it had a black line that went across joining them, just like a mask. So I came home and checked my Parrots of the World and sure enough! It's a NiamNiam, a species that I have never seen in person so that was a treat!

We talked about diet and she now emailed me asking me what I feed my parrots so I told her and I also told her to join this birdsite so we will see if she does. Very nice lady... an animal lover, my kind of person
