Connor and Blu

Postby Blu » Mon Oct 27, 2014 1:14 pm

So I got a Green cheek a few days ago. I just moved my room to a different part of the house and now since it is alot brighter I moved Blu(my parakeet :budgie: ) and Connor(I know very original, my green cheek :gcc: ) in to my room. Last night I was covering my Birds up and sat down with my laptop. After a little while I heard little chirps coming from the cages. I got up and I went over to the cages and I noticed I failed to cover up the sides of there cages that are right next to each other up all the way. I look in to the little windows and there are Blu and Connor staring back at me from there cages. They were supposed to be in bed but nope, there whispering to each other like friends at a sleep over.

A little update on Blu and Connor, today they both got to meet up close for the first time. I let Connor on my shoulder and opened Blu's door so he can fly out whenever he wants. Blu right away flew out and landed on my shoulder. Connor decided he needed that shoulder so he walked over to Blu so Blu backed off since he didn't know what Connor was yet. They went back and forth between shoulders before Blu flew off. I felt bad so I put Connor on top of his cage and got Blu back and had a little one on one time. I brought Blu over to Connors cage and set him up top so he can get to know Connor. It was funny watching them as Blu was sitting on a part of the cage and Connor waddled over. Blu didn't fly off which I was expecting but he seemed a little nervous. Connor puffed up and schooched right up to Blu to cuddle. Blu was pretty skittish but Connor seemed to enjoy just sitting with Blu. Blu pecked Connor on the beak a few times and I think he was trying to preen. Connor then took his foot and tried to feel Blu with his foot like they both do when they get a new toy or object. Blu then flew back to his cage. I was very glad they seemed like they will warm up to each other with them both trying to preen the other.

I hope that it was a preening thing, but a raised foot may be a prelude to an attack as it sometimes is used to indicate aggression, so watch them very closely when this happens. Just so that you are aware.

Oh okay I will. I have seen them do this when they are investigating anything new so I assumed it was the same thing

One other thing, Connor is trained to wave when you wave or walk in the room, do you think it could be like some sort of greeting?

It could be anything. When Rambo puts his foot up to Myrtle, she puts her foot up too. I have no idea.
Rambo has a dry foot problem and preens them way too much. Sometimes when he is preening, Myrtle will stick her foot in. He preens it and she preens the top of his head.

Neither Kiki nor Kookooloo, my Senegal and my CAG, are trained to wave and when Kiki's foot goes up you best back away or you are going to withdraw a bloody stump with a pissed off Senegal still attached to it, the same holds true for Kookooloo except that she loves me and is careful to not rip out much flesh. So perhaps it depends on the bird and/ or the species.
