So I have been thinking more and more about what I will do with Connor and Blu when I am at college. I plan on going to college and nursing school to get my RN (I have a plan for all of this) and after that I plan on going to med school to become a neurosurgeon. Obviously I will be very busy. I have been concerned as to what I while do with my babies :? After I get my RN I would be able to get a job so I will hopefully be able to afford a apartment. Would Blu and Connor be terribly lonely while I am gone at work or would they be alright after I get home to play? Obviously there would still be a few years before I graduated college and nursing school so what do I do then?

I wish that I could advise you on how to cope with your birds and medical school at the same time as I understand that medical school is long and hard and then it gets really brutal as an intern, or at least that is my understanding of the process. I am simply not qualified to comment further than this on the topic.

Well, the truth is that you chose careers that are not good for bird keeping, my dear. Without even going into college courses, exams, etc which would make it VERY difficult, I understand that nurses work 12 hours shifts three days a week or something like that (and that's when they don't specialize after getting their degree -one of my nieces is specializing in neonatal ICU while working as an RN and she hardly gets enough sleep even though she has no children or pets and her husband does EVERYTHING in the house, including having food ready for her so all she has to do is eat and go to sleep), and doctors work up to 24 hours non-stop when it's their turn so I would say that it will impossible for you to keep them. I know this is not what you want to hear and I am sorry to say this because I know how much you love them but I've taken in several birds from kids that went to college and realized after the fact that they really couldn't keep them.

Thats what I was expecting to hear. My cousin is in medical school and he is very busy but he home alot even though he is studying. Residency would be the real problem. There is other options also. The air force will pay for your entire medical school education. I would be willing to let them stay with some one I trust with them (You too I would trust to take care of them) during residency. But I still have a couple of years before I start this process. I may end up changing my plans.

You seem to be a young lady with a good head on her shoulders and the heart in the right place so I am entirely confident you will make the right decision for them when and if it's necessary. But, don't worry too much until then, just enjoy your birds and cross that bridge when you get to it.

I am sitting in my chair on my laptop and I look over at Connors cage and he has one of his tail feathers clutched in his foot. He is playing with it but it is startling to see. Should I be worried or is he just molting one of his feathers.

This is ridiculous. Blu has gone through some sort of transformation. I have him out today and he is like a new bird. He flew down to the floor the second I opened up his cage and was running circles around my feet. It was always a challenge to get him onto the floor and now he did it on his own. He then flew over to me and tried to eat my sisters granola bar. He flew right for her and landed on the bar ahha and tried to eat it. He has never tried eating something new besides kale.

He's growing up and becoming more self-assured. Birds go through changes as they get older, just like people, dogs, cats and every single animal on earth. Don't worry about his tail feather, they like to play with them and even chew them up, sometimes.
