Ok so I didn't think Mojo ( his new name) like bananas! When I would give him apples and bananas he wouldn't touch the banana, but loved the apple ! Not wanting to waste another whole banana today after trying him again, I ate it myself. As I was eating it he came over near me and acted like he wanted some too... So I pinched him off a piece and he ATE it.. And came back 3 times for more, I was happy with that! I cooked him some sweet potatoes and Nope would not eat it.... I tried the banana trick with the sweet potato ( I hate sweet potatoes but....) and it didn't work! Now as for the gloop , I cooked him some last night, I'm sure it was all wrong but he nibble at it! I did give him a little of his seeds from his other home , just to make sure he wasn't hungry!! I'm sure I gave him way to much gloop and it just seems like he didn't eat much, but I'm going to keep trying it until I find what he loves.... How long do you guys leave the gloop in for them to eat.. Should he gobble it right down or nibble here and there??

Thank you. The yellow nape found a home and the others have been moved in. That is wonderful.

I leave the gloop and raw produce out all day until the sunset when I pick everything up and give them their dinner. If he is already eating some of the gloop, you have already 'broken' through 'the wall' so CONGRATULATIONS! He is on his way to a good diet! (I never had a doubt, amazons are EXCELLENT eaters!).

Now, as to his name change... does he recognize his 'old' name? Because I don't know if you know this but parrots understand the concept of individual names and use them themselves in the wild. Their parents name them in the nest and they will continue to use this given name throughout their entire life when they introduce themselves to others or refer to themselves. With captive-bred, it's humans who name them and that's the name that they feel identifies them so, if he already has a name, you might want to consider keeping it...

I got two birds (Zeus and Sweetpea) that came to me with the name they were given in their second or third home (Oscar and Sabu) but they made it clear those were was NOT their names so I tried using the original ones (Zeus' previous owner had told me of his original name but Sweet uses this name to refer to himself even though he had lived 9 of his 11 years with the second name), and it's amazing how positively they reacted to this simple courtesy. And, if you think about it, it makes sense... I would not like a new husband to tell me my name is no longer what I know it is but another one so why would they?

Pajarita, I couldn't figure out why he was acting so sad , bored and sleepy today, so I gave him some of the seed he WAS on and he has perked right up!! He is singing , playing with his toys ... Completely different bird now!!! I guess I should wean him a little slower from the seed ??

As far as his name, they guy I got him from really didn't know what his name is... Which means I don't have a clue!! The guy was calling him blue boy, but who knows! He was really mad over the seed thing.... He has been pouting today I guess! I was starting to think he was getting sick

One day I was picking on Rambo and called him Rainbow. He said "don't you ever ever ever ...".

I don't know if it works with birds but to change a dogs name you use the old one and new one together. They will start to recognize the new one as part of there name and eventually accept just the new one.

All of my pets except the cockatiels have nick names. Rambo will also answer to Big boy. If he decides to answer.

Ah, yes, I've gotten a few birds which nobody knew what their previous names were so I also named them myself. What you might want to do is to use Good Boy and Pretty Bird very often because these are phrases that everybody uses with them and hearing something they know gives them comfort.

You do need to feed him seeds for dinner and mix a bit of them in the gloop at the beginning. There is no cold turkey with parrots unless we are talking about a super severe medical issue.
