Lilly's language

Postby Matt Alyk » Mon Dec 08, 2014 9:57 pm

My goffins cockatoo Lilly used to do these weird mumbling sounds as if she were trying to form sentences but didn't quit know how. They sounded something along the lines of: "escwanawanashhh" . As she would talk, she would lift her wings and foot up and down, as if acting in a play of sorts. She was quite the talker. "Hi, Hello, Hello Lilly, and coughs, sneezing, and her mumbles are just a few things she would say.
Little light, lead us through the night, and if we die, burn down the forest.

It is funny.
I call it baby blabber. Myrtle does it when she wants to talk but can't get the words she wants.

I get quite a bit of this from Mimi who talks to herself off and on, it is just loud enough to know that she is saying words but not clear enough to understand what she is saying, And then I get it from both Kiki and Kookooloo when ever they are working on saying a new word. Listening to them at these times makes it easier to understand their words sooner than they are actually clear enough for most others to understand as you develop an ear for their words and attempted words.

The lifting of the leg is a typical too movement and the mumbling is common to several species, usually large ones but quakers do it all the time, too. My TAG does it when she is Pd Off about something and she sounds EXACTLY like a cantankerous old man talking to himself

My CAG blabbers all the time but we can occasionally pick up some very strange words like "no we aren't getting no f****** horse!" and "Buuuuuller." A moluccan that I work with named Calboy grumbles with this hilarious raspy voice while tilting his head back and forth. It is seriously hilarious!!

The first year we had Rambo he was in the sunroom. I could hear him talking but could not make out the words. I peeked around the corner. He was facing toward the window and practicing his words. I LOL and he turned around and yelled "don't you ever ever ever ...".

Well, it seems like mumbling is a common past time with parrots
