Updates!

Postby tacotaco » Fri Feb 06, 2015 1:39 pm

Hi all!! It has been a long time since I've been on this forum and I am glad to pop back in to see how everyone is doing, and meet all the new people! In the last year and a half, a lot has gone on! Sept 2013 I purchased a blue fronted amazon from a breeder in Maryland. Having only conures all my life, this was a pretty big change for me. I learned A LOT! My bond with Willow has been absolutely incredible. Although the conures do not like her, Willow and I get a lot of one on one time together. I do not let them all out at the same time yet. Willow says many words including "i love you", "good morning", "goodnight", "what are you doing?", "willow" - she also loves music and dancing!! She is dna sexed.

Some more news.. January of 2014. I was buying some food at a local chain pet store and I saw this nanday in the store around November. Her price was very high, and she was there for many many weeks. I started sending my husband in the store since i just couldn't see her in there anymore. I told myself if she was there by Jan 1 2014, i was going to make the store give her to me at a low cost. As the weeks went by her feather condition became poor. Her tail feathers were disintegrating and her body feathers all scraggly. I spoke to the manager, a middle aged man, and explained to him that her condition was worsening and she didn't look healthy (or happy) anymore. I said that the price was too high but that I would love to take her home and rehab her to better health. I showed the manager my conure blog, and he agreed to let me take her - $300 less than what her window tag said.

She is the sweetest and most cuddly little thing! (not dna sexed, as none of my conures are) When we were home, i trimmed her tail up (her wings were cut so short already which was not good) and eventually her tail began to grow beautifully. she now has all beautiful feathers! The other two conures love her very much!!! The three musketeers!

Here are some pics below of Willow (the most gorgeous blue front if i do say so myself lol) and autumn.

Didn't know you were still around. Glad to hear the birds are ok and you didn't get rid of Mr. Alegra. What's your next bird gonna be?

Willow is the bluest BF I have ever seen. She is beautiful.
Myrtle grows a little more blue as she goes along but Willow is something else. Myrtle also has a blue butt. Does Willow?

no blue on hiney but certainly is blue on the crown! so many people comment about her unique look, tons of blue and i hope she doesn't lose it as she gets older which some tend to do. lol

They don't 'lose' the blue as they get older, meaning the area does not become smaller, it just 'fades' a bit so the blue is not as vibrant.

I believe Michael has been considering additions to the forums (you are the second person who asks for such a forum).
