first day out of cage!!!!!! brown throated conure

Postby kika95 » Thu May 21, 2015 3:09 pm

Today I open Charlie's cage to see if he would come out. Like Liz recommended in a another post I made. This was my first time trying this and after I would say 15 or 25 minutes he came out and crawled on the cage before he fluttered to the floor. I never realized how small he really is until he was out in the room. I layer down on the ground while he was on the floor and he came up to and crawled on my arm and my head he's been out for 30 minutes and right now he's sitting on my shoulder. We have only had him a month he just let me start petting him like 3 or 4 days ago and now he's sitting on my shoulder. I'm so happy and I feel like we have made a lot of progress with him. Especially since the lady from the pet said he was never really let out of his cage and handled. :sun:

AWWWW how very wonderful for him and you! There is nothing on this earth that bonds people and parrots like allowing them access to our bodies. It always warms my heart when I hear of a little bird that has been confined to a cage for a long time and is now allowed some freedom from it. Congratulations to both of you!

Thank you so much it meant a lot to me I even cried a little :) now we just leave the cage open to let him know its ok and he can come out whenever. I really love my bird and it makes me happy that he trusts us enough to come out.

Yes it is :) he's been out everyday since and likes to from me and my hubby. He likes crawling up my pant legs all the way to my shoulder. Our room is two bedrooms connected and since his flight feathers are growing he likes to fly all The way across the rooms. I love seeing him free comfortable and happy

This is wonderful news but, please, please, please make sure you birdproof thoroughly because, as the days, weeks and months go by, he will become more adventurous and you need to make sure he is safe everywhere he might go.

Yeah the 1st time he did it we got a little scared but now its funny to watch. We won't be clipping his wings. We do need to finish the second room because we weren't planning on having him go in there but he seen my hubby and flew in there onto him :). Our first room we cleaned super good and took out all small items covered the wires and took the sprays and things like that out. Today I have to make sure to do it even if I don't want to clean lol. Wires are the first thing I'm going to move out of the 2nd room because my hubby had his earphones in and Charlie was sitting on his shoulder so he took the ear bud right out of his ear and tried to eat it :o. I think we need to keep a good eye on our little guy....

I always keep an eye on my birds when they are out. It seems to me that as long as they can come into any area that we humans occupy that we always miss something, sometimes several things, that they can find and possibly get into trouble with.
