First Word

Postby Roonil Wazlib » Tue May 26, 2015 6:56 pm

Oh my Goodness, I'm smiling from ear to ear right now! He just said 'Hello' I mean, hes been saying it very crudely, in birdy talk the last few weeks, and yesterday it was almost clear, and was completely considered a hello, but it popped out this morning as clear as day XD I'm so excited and happy and proud :)

Yey! hope so! He had a big day yesterday so he's being all quiet now though :( I believe he will say "thankyou" at some point because when ever i ask him to do something, and he does it, i just say it >.< If he does take it on, I'll have taught him to use his manors XD

So you think, maybe, that he will say " Thank You" right after taking a big bite from you? I am just joking! But he would at least be polite about it. Come to think of it Kiki will bite and say either " I love you' or " Thank you" .

Wolf, Kiki was grateful for the taste. Ha Ha Ha
Roonil, and so it begins. The talking is a whole lot better than squaking but you are now going to be flooded with words. You will be constantly listening for the words.
Watch what you say. Just like a baby they will pick up the words you don't want them to hear.

Awww, that's great! Human speech is nothing that motivates me but I will admit to been enchanted every morning when I come down with the dogs and Sweet says: "Good morning!" in a little singsong.

Haha, Wolf - *poop* "thankyou" *bite" *thankyou" *Scream as loud as possible* *thankyou* ohoh, i hoping for *kisses* "thankyou" Hehehe

I can also hear "Peak-a-boo" and "I don't know" coming through, but they are yet to be identified as speech. Though when he does "say" them, i'm repeating and encouraging.

Liz - When we first got him, we had a mate living with us who swears a lot, and every time he dropped a bomb I would say "Watch your language" Thankfully hes out now. I just have to worry about what i say, but it will be super duper cute if he were to pick up on "Watch your language" (but hopefully not, because i don't want to have to say it while around him)

Pajarita - Yeah, I was interested in a parrot for their speaking ability, so I wanted a species that was known to talk well. But I knew that even if I got a grey, for example, he might not talk, so it was always just an added bonus for me, i get a kick out of his chittering :) However, i am motivated for him to talk so it will lesson the screaming :)

What does he call you? Rambo calls me Momma. Myrtle just says Ma.

I don't think that their learning to talk human decreases their screams... but I am not 100% sure about this and, if it happens, it hasn't happened to any of my birds. I've taken in screamers and they all stopped whether they talked or not. The worst one was Freddie, the cockatoo (that bird drove us CRAZY for months!), which would talk human but, when it came to his screams, he always used 'bird' language

With the amount of painkillers in my system, I call Kiki a drug addict, but she doesn't bite me all that often anymore and even those are getting to be gentler, not as large of pieces of flesh being taken.
I don't recall Mimi screaming any less just because she talks. She only makes bird noises and the occasional whistle when she sings along with a song on the radio. Her screams are very often human words that she screams when she falls into that mood. I do think that in terms of sheer volume her bird screams are louder than her human word screams, although that is very little consolation as she screams very loud.
