I have no idea as to whom Fajr will choose to mate bond to, but I would think that it is likely to be a different person that the one with which he is bonded to at present as that is the parent/ child type of bond, and I would think that given the choice that he would not choose to mate bond with the person who was his surrogate parent.
This is one of the reasons given for why some birds are rehomed that they didn't mate bond with the same person that was parent to them and who wanted the bird in the first place.

That can be true Wolf, but in my house everybird has bonded to me as the parent and than later as the mate. Even though I hope it will be my hubby my Meyers makes the mate bond to, I am expecting it to be me.

If you wet the newsprint and let it dry in the shape you want it will hold better. Also, although white flour is not great for birds, or people for that matter, it only takes a very small amount mixed with the water to make paper mache which is even stronger. That is the only type of 'glue' that I would use. I did this with over a balloon, when dry cut a hole in it budgie size and removed the balloon. Now Fiest has her space that the others cannot get into.

Thats the glue I use too, flour and water its safe for the birds. I made a play house for a conure I had many years ago by covering a ballon with paper, cotton cord and white glue in layers and then later popped the baloon. That conure loved that toy.

as to the fact that the baby bird you raise with love and adoration will eventually choose another... I am glad to hear, shiraartain that you have a different scenario developing in your home. My Jasper will always be ''my baby boy' but this letting go....'leaving the nest' lol, has been true for me as well. It was bittersweet for me seeing him mature and become independent. It remeinded me of my own 2 sons, who I had great bonds with, I taught to hit, catch , throw and kick a ball, I took tobogganing and built snowmen with, I raked leaves in piles and jumped into it with them, read to, sang to, played tag and hide and seek, carved pumpkins, played cards for the learning at young ages, red and black and matching pairs at first to gofish and crazy eights, to 31 knock when math was in order, took for walks in the woods several times a year, I lOVED THEM DEEPLY, ADORED THEM ! and now that they are in their 20's,,,, seem to want nothing, or at least not a lot to do with me. Jaspers independence reminds me of that.

By the same token there is always the possibility that he will still choose you to bond with as an adult or that he will first choose someone else and then change his mind and still wind up choosing you.
I have read of this happening and enough to think that it may not be that uncommon either.

When Kiki, Senegal showed up at my home. I gave her a home and at first she chose my Lady for her special person. She was hormonal when she arrived and in fact she was going through puberty although I did not know this or even what that was at the time. After about a month after choosing my Lady as her special human she changed her mind and chose me and is now happily bonded with me. Not exactly the same thing, but pretty close to it.

Jasper, of late, has been coming to me again of his own volition, for short periods. He has also lately been bothering Fiest, the female budgie for no apparent reason. there is no ''attacking' but just a bothersome irritation that makes Fiest chirp in a loud and disturbed way. No matter which cage she is in he seems to seek her out and irritate her. mind you a month or so ago Fiest was going out of her way to annoy Jasper and Kiwi, but now that sh has stopped that I don't know why Jasper feels the need to antag.onize her further. He HONESTLY used to be the 'peace keeper' when any little dispute would occur between any of the other birds, he would be right there getting between them, puffing up and posturing to break it up. honest to goodness, he did. it was astonishing to Doug and I. For a time he was self appointed sheriff. now he is antagonizing Fiest, although I do know and saw for myself when she ambushed him while he was taking a drink, landed right on his head and held on , I guess it hs been since then he has a bit of a thing against her. I thought h.e would get over it by now. He does not attack her, and when kiwi goes at her \Jasper will still step between and stop it, even though Kiwi is Jaspers 'buddy' Jasper has always placed himself between little disputes, puffing up and strutting and chirping.quite amazing really, but now he is antagonizing Fiest, on one level I understand but on another I don't get it, not from Jasper

I don't know what to say other than, lets hope that it stops so that it doesn't escalate into something more dangerous. Perhaps the answer is in what he does to irritate and/ or antagonize her? Perhaps more detailed information and/ or video would help us to understand what is occurring and lead to a solution.

The regular thing he does is, when Fiest is in her paper mache 'egg' Jasper will go into the cage and jiggle it around using his beak at the hole and when Fiest protests and pecks at him he will use his foot and continue to jiggle it, then beak again and so on.

That sounds like too much to me and it could escalate from there. You may have to prevent access to her when it coud happen.

I have been keeping that door closed now, also thinking of moving the budgies upstairs. I would have to birdie proof one of the rooms.
