I have many birds that don't say a single word and a couple that say only "Hello" or their own equivalent (like Naida which says "Hi, Nate") but, in all honesty and although I do enjoy the chatter of the ones that do talk (Mami is babbling to herself in her little old lady's voice and singing her Tra la la, and I am smiling at her antics as I am typing), it makes no never mind to me. Even the ones that don't talk human communicate very effectively, if you ask me. All it takes is the human paying attention, observing and making mental notes to remember for future reference. Something that might be easier for people like me who first had canaries for many years because, as they don't talk or have any behaviors that remotely resemble human ones, one needs to pay a lot of attention to the details in order to evaluate their wellbeing. But it's much easier with parrots than with canaries...
