Needless to say, I think keeping these birds in those old-fashioned, small, round cages and all by themselves for years and years with no actual physical interaction with anybody is the epitome of cruelty! Parrots don't care about 'getting waited on hand and foot' and humans from afar don't really entertain them...

I agree with you completely. Being kept in a cage all the time is no different than being in jail no matter how many visitors you get. They are loving beings that need close interaction.
