He laughs at the humans

Postby JessiMuse » Wed Sep 23, 2015 8:08 pm

Today, my sister and her husband came over, because something was up with my laptop, and my sister's husband is a computer expert.

Well, my sister's husband is also from Australia, and so I started asking him about the native species there (mainly about the reptiles and birds, especially the birds). He told me about seeing cockatiels, cockatoos (sulphur crested and galahs), and quite a few species.

Well, the entire time he was talking, Dudley was laughing his evil villain laugh, that he does whenever he finds something funny, and that usually relates to whenever someone says or does something stupid. For whatever reason, he only did it while my sister's husband was talking.

I wonder if he thinks his accent's funny, or something?

Sometimes, I can just never tell what he's thinking.

It could be that he hears the difference. They are very perceptive.
Myrtle is very very social and goes to almost everyone. There are times though that someone comes and she sees something different in them and gets quiet while watching close.

I have never tried anything with accents with my birds, but they all love music and singing and mine whistle and laugh and do their best to sing along with the music. I would consider this to be similar in nature but one never knows for sure. Any way laughter is always a good thing.

I don't think that birds laugh because they think that something is funny... I mean, for one thing, we really do not know if birds have a sense of humor (we know apes do and there are studies been conducted right now with other types of mammals -there is one where they tickle rats :D ) but, even if they did, I don't think it would be similar to ours. I think they imitate human laughter for different reasons, depending on how and when they learned it. I know that my male Senegal laughs so as to ingratiate himself to whoever happens to be the supposed recipient of his laughter. For example, he has been trying to woo Zoey, female Senegal, and he laughs a lot at her in a delighted sort of way like a human would do when a baby does something cute and endearing so I am thinking that, once upon a time, somebody laughed at him in the same way when he did something they particularly liked and he figured out that this type of sound is the consequence of good feelings toward the bird or person who is supposed to 'receive' the laughter.

Indeed, I can't tell for sure why he laughs, though I do think he's smart enough to have a sense of humor, which always seems to associate with someone messing something up. Then again, that could be how he learned it too, and associated it with people doing stupid things.

Dudley has two laughs. The "silly human!" laugh, which he does whenever one of us says or does something funny, and then the "evil villain" laugh, which for whatever reason, he does while walking on the bottom of the cage. It sounds like he's plotting something. Still haven't figured out why he does this. He was never taught, and there's nothing that really triggers it.

Well, I beg to differ. I think that, although he was not taught, he did learn it from humans and the fact that you cannot pinpoint the trigger doesn't mean there isn't one.

I know they can premeditate. I have seen it many times. They don't fan out but the eyes do their weird thing as if the gears are running in their minds. Rambo is older and sneakier. Myrtle has not learned to hide it. I have seen her go through multiple steps to get to the end she wants.

There isn't anyone in the house who laughs like that, though. I mean, he could've learned it at the store my parents got him from almost 30 years ago, but I'm not sure if it's intentionally meant to be a laugh. Just sounds like it. Could be triggered by his own mood, though. Sometimes when he's on the bottom, doing his evil villain laugh, I see him in an... interesting position, so I wonder if hormones don't play a role in it.

Most of us watch TV and even at times cartoons and it is possible that he heard it on TV at some point and liked it. That is all it takes.

You do have a point, Wolf. Never thought of that.

Why he associates it with walking on the floor of the cage or.. that one other thing he does, is beyond me. Kinda makes me wonder... What DID he hear before I was born?
