Love it, I only need two banana leaves for mine to start off with. I am a sucker for birds hanging out doing bird things, what can I say?

Looks like they're shredding it. Lucy does that with paper and such; rips a piece off, moves the piece around, feeling it with her tongue, and then just drops it.

Though I'm curious. Are banana leaves even safe for birds?

They love shredding the leaf. I don't see them eating the leaf. Besides banana leaf, I give them wild ginger leaves to forage too.

PS. Banana leaf is safe.

The very first I brought home a banana leaf, my grey got spooked by it. It took awhile for her to realize it was so much fum to play with it.

I have ginger growing in my yard but never thought to offer the leaves as toys.

Apparently, they use the leaves for a sweet dish in India but, for what I could gather, they use them as wrapping (like one would use a corn husk for a tamale, for example) so I am not sure they are tasty or even edible...

My birds like to shred any kind of greens - have you tried giving yours a Romaine heart? Mine love to shred them.

No, I actually had never heard of them before, I will have a look for them at markets, but havnt seen them at anywhere before.. But I will definately keep an eye out, thankyou :) I know that at the markets I can get banana leaves, but it is just from someones backyard, (markets as in where people go to sell produce they grew at home, old furniture, homemade cards, plants, unwanted birds, and breeders go there too. Not supermarket market) so who knows what pesticides or what they have on them... but then again all the food yo buy at supermarkets has been sprayed and Tilly gets it (after being rinsed of.)
