Anyone in Arizona?

Postby JessiMuse » Thu Dec 10, 2015 10:05 am

If this isn't allowed, go ahead and delete this thread, but I really need help right now. Specifically from anyone in Tucson AZ and the surrounding area.

I will admit, I'm a total idiot and messed up. I don't want to share the details on how this happened, but Lucy is gone now. She flew away yesterday, and is out there somewhere. She doesn't know her name very well, but she steps up. She does have a couple of odd feathers that she doesn't preen, one occasionally sticks out on the left side of her chest.

She flew out yesterday from my back yard. I live on the northwest side of Tucson, postal code 85741. If you're in Tucson at all, or anywhere near Tucson, please PM me, and I will give you my contact information.

And if you see this bird ANYWHERE out there, PLEASE let me know. She's flighty and doesn't do well with strangers, so approach with caution if you must take her in. She steps up, but like I said, she's not good with strangers.

I am sorry to hear about this event. Please don't give up on her just yet and keep looking for her. She may be in a tree nearby but would be unlikely to call out as she is alone and scared. Look around for any bird feeders or bird baths as she will also be looking for water and food and she is accustomed to it being provided to her. Ask the neighbors to keep an eye out for her and see if you can get it on the public service announcements on the radio. Check with vets in the area in case some one finds her, also pet stores and bird rescues in the area.
I know that we have members in AZ but I don't know if any are near Tucson. good luck and I hope that you can find her and bring her home safely.

Yes, put a cage outside with seed and water on and in it. Tiels do fly away but they get real scared when they are all by themselves in an unfamiliar place and almost always stay close to the house (you might even be able to hear her calling). Go out at dawn and dusk and call her using not only her name but phrases that you might use all the time. And, if you see her up on a tree, don't expect her to fly down to you because she won't so don't take your eyes off her (easier if there are two people) and be prepared with seed in your pocket and a long ladder.

Thanks wolf. I'm just really worried, because she cant fly that fast. I think I saw her fly off not too far this morning, but I could also be seeing things.

I've already posted to 911 parrot alert. And another parrot alert sight, and craigslist, and several facebook groups, and I'm trying to get my friends to share on there as well. I'm determined to try and find her as soon as possible. I'm thinking of putting flyers around the neighborhood as well, and checking with vets, shelters and pet shops. I really want her to be safe.

Follow all the instructions in the previous posts. You say she does not know her name. She does know your voice. Calling her can bring her home. The best time to call is just before dawn. Birds are awake at that time but wait for light to fly. She can hear you call and when there is light she should follow your voice.

It may take up to a week of her enjoying her freedom but it will get old and she wants to come home. Keep calling, spread the word, put out flyers. Talk to neighbors. Talk to anyone anywhere who will listen and hand out your phone number.

I've already asked some neighbors, and they've spread the word as well. I'm trying just about everything I can do.

I just put out a big tray of her seed mix right next to her cage. I'm hoping that she'll see it and go down to grab a bite, but chances are the wild birds might get to it first. You think she could still go for it, even when being crowded by a bunch of other species?

I keep on hearing her, but I can't tell for the life of me which direction it's coming from, so it might just be in my head. I might go out for a walk too, see if I can see or hear her. Did that yesterday, and ended up getting lost in the neighborhood.

Do you think she would follow the sound of my dog's barking? He does that often so she would most likely recognize it, but I don't know if it would attract her, or scare her off.

I swear, I heard her! This wasn't the same as the times before when I heard it in my head. I heard her flock call, and I had a good idea of which direction it came from. She did it only for a short time. I tried calling out, but she didn't respond.

I don't know what she's screaming about in the afternoon, but I heard her out there!

I think there might be a mocking bird nearby too. Earlier, I heard a call similar to her's, though it didn't have the same squawky voice. Talk about causing confusion. What I heard might have been that mocking bird, too. It sounded a little too much like her to be a mocking bird, though...

I went out there a second time, and she screamed again. It was more clear. Heck, she started as soon as I got out that door. Like she could see me from where she is. She still sounds somewhat far, but she's still close. She's probably screaming for me. She's trying to tell me where she is. Thing is, she shuts up almost as soon as she starts, so it doesn't give me enough time to pinpoint where I'm hearing it from.

Should I go for a walk to try and find her, or should I keep calling her from my back yard? She's went almost a full day, seemingly without food and water. How long can she go without it?

I'm hoping by this evening. Quite a few neighbor's have pools, and I don't want her drowning, trying to get a drink from one. We actually have a pond as well as a pool. The pond has a shallow end with some landing spots where birds like to drink and bathe, I would prefer her to be attracted to that then our pool. I keep looking out there, to make sure she hasn't fallen in, somehow.

I know the neighbor who's tree she might be in. She tried getting a latter and retrieving Lucy herself, but Lucy. It seems she may have return to said tree. I'll ask her to put a bowl of water there, or something. Though she has dogs, so that might not be a good idea, either...
