Yes go for a walk and don't stop calling until it is too dark for you to see. If you don't get her try again before dawn in the direction you have been going.

Wild birds are who she is hanging with. If they go to the feeder for food and water she may follow.

You are going to have to take your time carefully looking up into the trees that you think she might be in as it can be very hard to see even a brightly colored bird in a tree. Binoculars might be helpful in spotting her and might not. Lets hope that she doesn't try to drink from a swimming pool as drowning would be kinder than chlorine poisoning. Even if she calls she won't do it for long as a lone bird calling attracts predators and she knows this instinctively.

Still no luck today. I'm gonna go looking all around the neighborhood tomorrow.

I'm really afraid. It's supposed to rain tomorrow afternoon, and then freeze.

Yes, you need to put hours looking up and do get yourself binoculars. My Isis got out only two weeks after she came to live with us and I found her by staying outside and calling and calling while I looked up into the trees. You need to do this from different perspectives so, if your house has two stories, hang out the window looking from different ones - and stand in different spots in the front and back of the house because, most often, you can see them from only one side. And, if you hear her, keep on looking until you see her - don't come back inside and don't think she will come down because she won't. She is calling for you to come get her.

I don't think she's in the neighborhood anymore. I haven't heard her anywhere all day. Clouds are forming and it's getting cold. Honestly starting to lose hope...

Well, it's raining now. Unless if by some miracle, she finds some form of protective shelter, or actually let someone take her in, I'd say the chances of her survival are slim.

I don't even know what to say. I just feel so... I don't know. I'm exhausted from looking, worrying, from just about everything. I can't believe I let this happen!

What the heck is wrong with me? Am I just bad with birds? It seems like right when I think I have everything down, I manage to screw something up. I didn't even have her for a year, and just a few days ago, I posted on another forum website about how well I was doing with her. Gosh, I'm so stupid!

I don't even know what to do now... The least I can do is just hope that somehow, someone managed to take her in. Even if they are too selfish to check if she belongs to someone, the least they could do is give her a good home, and probably be a better owner than the idiot that lost her.

Parrotsforlife, I think that you may have worded your reply wrong, but we know what you meant.

Jessimuse, Although you have not told us exactly what happened, most of us can tell you pretty much what happened, maybe with a slight variation to it, because some of us have made the same mistake of one very similar to it. Yes, it was a stupid mistake and one that you should have known better than to do and the results of this incident will remain with you for a long, long time. Hopefully you have learned the right things from it and you will never make the same type of mistake again. The things that you are feeling including the guilt that you are laying on yourself, probably a bit too harshly, are far worse than any reprimand that I or anyone else could give you.

I, like many others was a bit cocky and too bold for my own good and use to take Kookooloo outside and turn her loose in the yard to play in the grass and let her get some sunshine. This was without her wearing a harness or being in a cage. I was so bold because she had never shown any interest in flight and always walked where she went. There is a post on here that I made after it happened giving all of the details. I was one of the lucky ones as I was able to recover her, many others have not been so lucky.
I will admit that no one will tell you that you did not make a stupid mistake, they may have even tried to reinforce why it was not a good choice, but no one wants to get on you for it as we know about our own stupid mistakes and as unfortunate as this is we are hoping that you will still be lucky enough to recover her. You will beat yourself up over this far worse than we could and although you have the right to do so, I would remind you that hindsight is 20/20 and causes you to see clearly what you did not beforehand. Don't be too harsh with yourself, just learn from it.
Although the chances may be slim, there is still a chance that she will survive a bit longer, there are feral parrot populations in AZ. She will try to find some shelter and will try to remain still while it is raining and if you dress for the wet, this might help you to spot her if she is still close.

I guess I owe you guys an explination then, huh?

I went outside with her to let the dog in. When I open the door, I usually hold onto her foot for in case something like that happened (that would probably be asking for an injury right there). Well, my dog wouldn't come in, so I went further into the yard to get him. Guess I didn't even hold onto her tight enough in the first place. Flew into the neighbor's yard. I ran to her house to retrieve her, but by then, she already gained the strength to fly up into our other neighbor's tree. THAT neighbor got the ladder out and tried to retrieve Lucy herself. Well, that scared Lucy, and she flew further away.

She returned to that tree the day after, but I think she might have flown further away since then.

After that, I think not beating myself up is about the hardest thing I can do right now. Especially when I've been told beforehand not to bring her outside.
