I don't know anything about the place but I hope they can keep it going if it is one of the good ones.

Based on the little information provided this was probably one of the better ones and will most likely keep going.

Hmmm, I don't know... 900 parrots is A LOT of parrots. I mean, even the huge sanctuaries here don't have that many - you would need buildings and buildings as well as huge outdoor aviaries. And a HUGE budget, too!

Sounds like she was pretty well heeled and was probably good at raising funds too.

900 parrots is probably a massive exaggeration - anything in the media usually is.

Well I don't know anything about them but for those who are interested here is a link to their parrot refuge, so you can check it out if you like.

It didn't impress me... They only show you a single picture of a single building -granted, it's a pretty large building but I don't see enough windows or a single skylight in it. They tell you of all the features like heating and such and the different aviaries in it but there isn't a single picture although there are lots and lots of pictures of the stuff for sale in the thrift shop - why? It doesn't adopt out even though it has 'over 800 birds' as per their own website - why? They only show you a few birds pictures, all in cages and some in ones made out of galvanized wire mesh (not good).

I know I sound very cynical but I know of several 'rescues' and one 'sanctuary' that are nothing but a way to make money -and that's only birds, I know many, many more dog and cat rescues that are not for the animals' sake but just a way of making money easily. And, sometimes, the person who started it had the best intentions in the world but, as the years went by and they kept on taking animals, things went South so badly that they ended up doing more harm than good. The problem with them was not that they wanted to make money but that they did not admit they were completely overwhelmed (I know of two bird rescues that were like that).

With the exception of the wire the flights look absolutely amazing. Best set up I've seen yet with regard to perch availability, toys etc. I don't know of any rescues that have aviaries that use any other wire tbh- doesn't make it right but I can't see the birds in this set up chewing away at the wire or spending too much time climbing it.
