Pictures of the past

Postby Chantilly » Wed Feb 10, 2016 5:59 am

I guess I just feel like looking back at the birds that have led to now, owning Tilly and Shrek.. Atleast I am able to see the good where we did not succeed. A few of these guys you probably will remeber me talking about.. :)
image.jpg
I should certaily start by showing you my first birds, who I still love greatly, they are amazing pets and really tame... Sadly over the years our flock numbers have decreased allot, including Mango my first hen dying last year on Anzac day, she was 5...

When we lost a few of our hens to a fox, we got four ducks (well, I was able to use that excuse to get them atleast.) We got them as a baby, this is Sunny, my first duck at around 9mo. she is actually trying to hatch eggs right now...

We also had turkeys for a good year, they were lovely.. So tame! But they fought and were injuring eachother badly so we gave them to a lady who wanted more turkeys to add to her flock, In return she gave us 3 6mo. ducklings she didnt want (Yup, because nodody wants muscovies  ),.

Moving on to Rosie, who you have probably heard of...
image.jpg
Sweet, perfect, cuddly, tame Rosie who we had for a week, she couldnt fly properally, showed up at our fence so we took her inside (well, it wasnt that gracefull, more like chased a hobbling frightened scared baby in through the door) Dad caught it towled it for a while and she calmed down (yes, we decided it was a she :P though she was a baby Dad says. she slept in a puppy cage that night, and the next mornig when she didnt wly of when we took her outside (well, she tried but she just fell to the floor being attacked by the chickens.) we bought her a cage and she very soon loved being on us and wanted attention from us (her 'new' flock 24/7). She died exactly a week after her arrival, bleeding from the mouth.

And this next one, you have definately heard of, this is the car trip home....
image.jpg
We actually got Tilly about a year after Rosies arrival, I at the time didnt want to give the breeder any money! Let his buisness die was my thought on the subject.
Although I felt sorry for all the birds there, I thought us not buying one of his million birds would destroy his whole buisness, silly me. Anyway eventually I agreed we should get one and It was either Tilly or an older more feathered one, I picked small shaky almost not feathered Tilly Billy. I also wanted her name to be Jazzy not Tilly, but now I see how much better the name Tilly is
She is the most perfect thing in my whole wold, And although I didnt want to get her at first, now I would rather die than not have her (and U am serious about that!).

^lol I not U...

Here Tilly is getting in more feathers, and I think she was starting to fly and wean onto seed here! (I know we shouldnt have weaned her onto just seed now, again, we were not told anything by the breeder, and we really knew nothing!)

Ok, so we found this cutie on the side of the road on the way to sport, Tilly in the process of being weaned at the time, we kept he in a box over night and offered her baby food egg and buiscut baby formula (not because she was a lory,we didnt know anything about lories, but because we thought she was a baby), in the morning we opened the box and schwack into the window. So we scooped her up and took her outside and off she flew, over that one night we had already named her Ollie, even though we had no intention of keeping her (we had no intention to keep Rosie either, we made that decision from the start, once it can fly, if it wants to go let it.

^Oh I forgot the most important thing! The thing that was wrong with her we figured out that she was drunk! Dont know if yous have heard of the 'Drunken parrot plant' yup, she got her funny little tongue onto that and that was exactly how she acted, drunk.. like she was somewhere else and didnt have full control over her movements.
Tilly Billy again!

Kahli, you might remember her from when I joined, I joined the day after we got her, I think. Anyway we got given her from where I volonteer because my brother wanted an alexandrine and because the owners didnt have the ime to give her the special care she needed. Kahli and her sinling had fallen out of the nest, the sibling was brought inside and died, and Kahli survived outside for quite a while, though she was deformed, and had splaid legs. Kahli didnt make it, she lived four days, her feet curled and it was almost as if she was having a heart attack?
I think part of the reason that the sibling died was that the owners thought they were weaned when the parents (fathers!!) were still feeding them. And we figured this out, but Kahli had great dificulty taking food from the spoon we gave it on.

After bolonteering for a while and joining here I was able to change my birdies diets to better suit, and anthough they still arent perfect diets, Tilly is certainly much healthier than she once was, now getting daily fruit and veg, rather than just seed, and look how pretty she is, so thanks guys :D. I do plan on further improving diets soon, but I need to get everything going on with school sorted out first!

^Haha, aww I cant stop tapping the wrong buttons  I meant volonteering not 'bolunteering'!
Oh well! I think I should start getting ready to go to bed its about 9:42pm here now

Gorgeous little dinosaurs! I'm disheartened to hear that some of them have moved onto wider skies... but also happy to see the ones that are well and happy! Thank you for sharing your flock with us. All the luck to you and your babies! :swaying:

thanks guys :), and yes it was very sad.

Also: yesterday an emerald dove frew into our kitchen window then straight into a bedroom window.. and went into shock so we kept him in a box in a dark room (if we didnt our dogs would go and start playing tuggawar with it) inside for about an hour or two and he was ready to go
It was soooo beautiful! :o
