I held a budgie!

Postby Chantilly » Tue Apr 26, 2016 3:00 am

Yesterday night... for the FIRST tine in my life... I held a Budgie!!!!!
For me that was such an awesome experience, I have held macaws, and cockatoos but never before last night had I held a budgerigar.
I still cant believe how tiny and light he was, I am evil and cannot remember his name *face palm* but he left me full of awe ...the whole time I held him, he was chasing around his two lady friend princess parrots on me trying to share his dinner, every now and then stopping to offer to regurgitate into my mouth  That was pretty awesome! I was amazed how light he was!

.... And today I managed to get bitten by my brothers aggressive spotted python whilst getting her out for her feed (it is feeding day) *yay :/

Tilly and Shrek are desperately needing me to buy them more toys, but I haven't been able to find any natural wooden ones, or had the time to make them some coconut husk toys.
Do your birds have one toy in specific that they take a liking to that you would recommend? A pet shop about an hour away from us has this toy I am seriously considering getting, it has all bits of wood wrapped up like pieces of candy, it looks pretty hardy, but it is almost $40. And what I get for one, I (probably) must get for the other :/ ... I don't know If I should get them one big toy or heaps of little cheap(if there is such thing) ones... still trying to decide

It really depends on your birds as to how best to go about choosing toys for them and that can be an interesting project all on its own. Some toys are great for sharing with all of them if the birds allow it Sometimes they can play together with supervision and sometimes not, they may be possessive of any given toy and not for one that looks just the same to us. Never underestimate the drawing power of a piece of cardboard or of a wadded up piece of paper.

Wonderful hearing about you budgie experience, they are such great little birds and so often looked down on and not given their due credit.

Yes, aren't budgies adorable?! And so tiny, right?

My birds don't have any favorite toys... Isis previous owner brought her what used to be her favorite toy when she lived with him and it looked as if it was a hit (even though I did not like it) but she played with it a grand total of three times and then forgot all about it.

Yes they definately are underrated,

Thankyou both, yes, Shrek loves paperbags and cardboard rolls, both equal a long time of entertainment... Tilly however does not see anything in them  She is not as artistic as Shrek

Do you want to hear a funny? Makes no difference you are going to hear it anyway.

When I had just 4 cockatiels one of them was Sweetie. She was a couple years older than the others and quite adventurous. To "stretch walls" in their cage I would put some foods in lunch bags laid on their side. It created an extra serving area with out getting poop in the food. It was working well until I passed the cage and found one upright with the tip of a yellow tail sticking out. She had walked inside the bag and flipped it up. She was trapped in an open paper bag. She could not fly out and did not know to walk out. I got her out but she gave me a good talking too for using bags.

 Paper bags seem to have an attraction to a number of animals because my parrots, cats and dogs all love them.

 Aww 'lil cutie, that would have given her quite a fright I can imagine  !
Perhaps all animals like paper bags pecause of the crickle crumple noises they make.

I don't know about that, but dogs, cats and parrots all use holes for raising their young, so I suspect that every animal that burrows or digs a hole or in anyway uses a cavity to raise their young in will like boxes and bags.

Yep, that is exactly what it is, Wolf. The 'cavity' instinctively makes them feel safe.
