Navre knows how wonderful it is to be where humans take care of crumpled little birds. The sanctuary you posted is wonderful. You know they have worked with these babies with the info they give.

We have a few of that quality here. I sometimes go in their web sight just to read the wonderful info on their health and progress. I contacted "Red Dog Farm" which is at a lower scale but they have the heart for the babies.

I was interest in one of the Amazons they had. They were asking $300 for rehoming. She was the perfect bird and I fell in love with her just by info. I wanted to get her but then an add came on Craigslist that looked suspicious. The woman who listed her was asking $300 and just sort of threw info in and then said she had to go. I was there the next morning. She was a real challenge.

I often think of the other Amazon at Red Dog Farm but I know she was so well cared for that the listing person was able to tell personality. If she never found a for ever home she was still in the best of care.

I encourage every one who wants a first bird to go through the sanctuaries. They not only give you the info on them but can also be called if you don't understand what the bird is doing. They will continue to help.

There are places to go like http://www.rescueme.org that allows the current human to list their bird. Some are much loved and have to be given up. Some are put up for rehome because they don't fit their families. You can still get a lot of info on them before making physical contact. These rehome sights are also a good way to find the bird that sutes your personality.

I am a firm believer on checking Craigslist. So many there are just what I consider "throw aways" and the people just want to get rid of them. If you have any experience you can change the lives of neglected and abused birds that NEED YOU. I thought I was experienced but I really did not know parrots. All I knew is what Rambo had taught. Rambo is more of a kid than a bird and what I knew did not pertain to any other.

I am wondering here. What I mean is that there are so many birds in so many stages with different personalities out there that one can be found without a breeder or pet store. Those places are about money only. If they were shut down for 3 years I believe that all birds could get forever homes.

Thank you for the link. The essay was EXTRAORDINARILY insightful! I was thinking about something along those same lines last night... Wolf used a phrase in a posting on the Clipping thread that stuck in my head and which, eventually, led me down the same path as this lady.

I am always looking on Gumtree at birds who are being rehomed, and at this australian rescue birds page, birds who people just cant stand the baby anymore or who do not have the means to care for it - https://www.parrotrescuecentre.com/
So many poor babies who just need someone who understands their needs and has the time. I agree, If all of the pet shops, and breeders would just go away for a few years. All the homeless animals, abused birds and stay dogs and cats would be able to find someone who loves them. I dont understand how people can buy an animal because of its colour or genes, when first thing I think of is if I am right for it, and it for me and if there is someone else that can work with me who needs me more.
If I ever get more parrots, I will be going to a recue or simoly somone who can not make it work with the bird it any more. Its just heartbreaking how many birds without a forever home there are.

Its heartbreaking, I get to work with them in this state and they are dying inside to be loved by someone. They try to build a bond with anyone just to have that interaction they need, but so few people actually understand them.

Stay out of rescue web sights unless you plan on another bird. I can't resist at taking in any little creature in need.

A very sad story, indeed. Unfortunately, there are sooooo many of them just like poor Corazon. She was, in a way, lucky. I know of a lady who actually put her bird down because she refused to give her to anybody else when she started self-mutilating. She claimed it was because she couldn't stand the idea of her hurting herself any longer but the fact that two weeks prior she had bought a brand new baby of the same species did not make her claims very credible...

I just want to bring them all home! I know that in reality I can not do that, I think that awareness definately needs to be raised about rescued parrots in need of a new home.
