Well I live in Edmonton and this is where I get all my bird supplies. They are top notch people who really care about all the birds in their care! I donated an extra cage I had to them last week and it is now being used to house one of the fire evaced birds. Last I heard they had over 70 birds that they were caring for.

It's amazing how many people have stepped up to help out by cleaning cages, help feed etc etc. With out all this help they surely would have been overwhelmed! Also kudos to the companies like Hagen that have stepped up with food and supplies!

Just an update to this story! Meika's Safehouse is a bird refuge and they also own Meika's Birdhouse. The Birdhouse is their retail store that sells bird supplies. They do not sell live birds as they would prefer that people wanting a bird would get from the rescue.

As of yesterday they are still caring for 53 of the fire evac birds from Fort McMurray. Please take a look at their Facebook site. Just search Meika's Safehouse (not birdhouse- they have 2 different sites on Facebook) It's worth a look as they update the site daily with information on the evac birds!

Hello, Randall! Welcome to the forum and thank you for giving us the 'personal' side of the story. This store sounds like the kind of place I would buy from, too, as I refuse to patronize businesses that use live animals as merchandise! I would love to live near them and volunteer at their rescue, they sound like real good people!
