Bird woman's flock

Postby Bird woman » Thu Jun 30, 2016 10:08 am

Wolf posted pictures of my flock for me , but I seem to not be able to see them from my I-pad and am going down today to buy a new one . I'm not sure which pictures can be viewed or what birds are showing so I'm just going to give a little history on all. The macaw is Huey he weighs about 1200 grams a big boy . Came to me about 17 years ago (wild caught) he pretty much rules the roost around here and is never caged. He roosts above all the cages at night and stands watch over the girls . He keeps things quiet by scolding them verbally if they don't shut up when it's time to go to sleep. He's approx. 27 yrs. Old, then the biggest mollucan is riki and she is next in command . She has been with us several years and was in a very abusive situation by a woman. Wing broken and not set. She was only male bonded but loves me now . She uses me for sloppy seconds and my husband is still top dog in her books. She sucks up to me when he's not here or when she wants to make him jealous, but that's okay I'll take what I can get. The umbrella is Maggie she had half her head bit off when she came here by a couple sm. Dogs and was in desperate need of medical attention. She is about 7 and now happy healthy and bonded with me. Lumi the little cockatoo was never abused and is my trouble maker , thinks she is bigger than she is .then the Greys neglected in desperate need of medical and operations, doing great now. And Lilly bell 2 toes half gone , the love of my life! :pied:

Thank you so much for the details! We love to get to know all our members birds stories and their little quirks. We saw the toos and the macaw but we did not see any pictures of the grays. And yes, those toos are so very loving one can't help but love them back with the same intensity!

Yes, I am ashamed to admit that, when it comes to my toos and hugging them, I am a bit of 'do what I tell you and not what I do' because, as you say, it's really very, very hard not to touch them all over (they LOVE it so!).

Awwww, beautiful!!! Is the M2 on the tree unable to fly? Because it doesn't look as if your birds are clipped -not that a mild one would prevent them from getting lost. Freddy too is unable to fly even though he is not clipped, is this the case with the M2?

Just an interesting thing I read the other day, Moluccans are the loudest birds in the world. Their calls have registered the same decibels as a 747!!!

No my birds aren't clipped , riki the one in the tree was unable to fly when she came here 2 years ago , I don't think she knew how . She had a wing injury before we took her in and didn't receive medical treatment so it healed bad.since then I've worked with her wing ( a little physical therapy ) and taught her how to fly but she can only go about 40 ft. And knows her limits. We have a lot of open acreage around the house and it's pretty hard for the birds to get out of my sight. When they first get here I sometimes will do a wing trim depending on how the bird is and then get them used to the property and then let them become fully flighted. I always make sure there are 2 of us when they go in the yard instead of the avairys. Bird woman
