This is, actually, an article about something called 'The Fermi Paradox' (aka 'The Great Silence')which, basically, represents the perplexing fact that even though it would be unwise to think that we are the only intelligent species in the Universe, we haven't caught as single whisper of communication from anywhere in the universe (thus, the 'paradox'). BUT, the reason why I am putting it here is that the author, Ted Chiang, makes a point of the fact that, although we search for the 'voices' of other species in the Universe, we tend to disregard the voices from other species right here on earth AND he uses parrots as his example! I was also very pleasantly surprised that he knows so much about them! I also enjoyed the fact that he writes it in the first person and that this 'person' is a parrot And the last phrase kind of broke my heart, same as it did when I first read of it... Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
