Lhakyi

Postby Erithacus » Sat Nov 26, 2016 1:52 am

Meet my new family member, Lhakyi. I have had him for a week. His previous owner could not find time for him. They were looking for someone to adopt him and here I am. He is not in the best condition. He feather plucks. It seems there is significant improvement since he arrived last Friday.

He does look a little rough. With your care he will become fine feathered.

One of his wings was badly plucked. He can't glide. He crashes straight down. I have to be very careful when he is on my hand.

What a shame that he got into this condition. Kookooloo still barbers her feathers, but as long as I spend a huge amount of time with her she usually doesn't pluck them out. We did have a period this spring where she started plucking again. This was during breeding season and I was tied up with going to the doctor to try and find out what was going on with my body, so I was gone a lot. Once I was able to start spending more time with her she started growing her feathers back.

So far I don't see him plucking since he came here.

It sounds like Kookooloo has periods of depression.

When I have a period of depression for more than a day, my hair suffers. It is good to not have that extreme depression very often. I would probably be bald.

I am pretty certain that she got very depressed by her human not being there for her and that this spring that she was not only hormonal but also depressed by my being gone to the doctors so much of the time. She only wants to be with me and could not understand why I would not want to be with her. But since I was and am having some major medical issues it could not be helped. While she is still over preening ( barbering) she has at least quit plucking her feathers out.
