Baby Senegal pictures

Postby Natacha » Tue Apr 13, 2010 8:16 pm

Shade turned 4 years old on March 30th.

This prompted me to go back and look at some of the baby pictures I have of her and her brother Nemo (who lives with my parents).

Here are a few of the pictures..

This is Shade when she a month old or so. The sponge near her feet was to help set her leg straight - long story that involves two previous breeders before Shade and Nemo ending up with a breeder my mom and I trusted (the one I got Piper from) to finish weaning. Turns out Shade had a broken leg that was healing improperly and Nemo two badly splayed legs with one being infected..those two babies went at the vet often before turning 4 months old. This was taken before the first vet visit, Shade got a cast after the vet re-broke and re-set the leg right.

Two babies in two bowls - Shade has the pink blanket, Nemo the purple one.
Image

Same as above, you can see Nemo slanted stance, a result of the two splayed legs, in this picture better.

Shade on the left, Nemo on the right

Shade is the one perched higher - everyone was actually surprised when Nemo finally learned to perch (his legs were that bad..) - they are slightly over 3 months on this picture.

Finally, Shade at four years of age :)

Beautiful pictures Natacha! They are so cute when they are babies.

And happy belated hatchday to Shade!

Makes me wish I knew more about Lucy and Jessie. All I know is Lucy will be 5 in August and Jessie will be 4 next month.

I've learnt a lot over the last few months and never really knew what was on their leg bands. I'm going to try and read their leg bands and try to find out where/when they were born.

Yeah I know what you mean.
I had Piper and Shade has babies, although Piper already had a previous home before me, but I know most of what there is to know about their past.
Joey I also know quite a bit, since he had only the one owner and he was pretty open about him and I knew him through my local parrot club. I also got a lot of documentations (breeder's papers, access to information at the vet, etc). Still, I'm kinda sad I only had him when he turned 3.

I really wish I knew more about Petey and Zuri's past, specially Petey. I have some idea of Zuri's and she's still quite young whereas Petey...well Petey is 15 and I only have a small amount of information about her past, the furthest being that one of her previous owners brought her in a pet store one day for a wing and nail trim and then told the store clerk who was doing the trimming to just keep the bird because she bit too much and then walked out...

lol, I will never understand people who think baby birds are cute. No offense intended of course, but man they are ugly! :P

Did Shade's sibling's legs ever completely heal or is he/she still semi-disabled?

Poor Petey ... thank god there's people like you that are willing to give them new homes.

I cannot ever imagine doing that. Lucy and Jessie mean so much to me and they are such a big part our lives. They are part of the family.
