Axel and winston up date

Postby Tman007 » Tue Feb 28, 2017 3:43 pm

Axel is getting more hormonal. His is making noises I have never heard him say before.
He also is hanging upside down wings out and flapping more. He is really displaying more letting everyone no how he is feeiing.
As for Winston is eating great. I have him steping up to come out of the cage. And when he is on the table he will come over and step up when I call him. He has also started to eat pellets. And take small treats from my hand. He can see me hand Axel a treat he wll sit on a perch in the front of his cage waiting for his treat. He is also back up to 90g.

That is great with their socializing.

You really should re think their diets. Pellets are just processed seed. It is like beef and pork turned into bologna.

Well, it's hard for me to keep track of everybody's birds ages but, if I remember correctly, Axel is way too young to be producing any sexual hormones (he is not yet three, right?) yet so, most likely, he is either not happy about Winston or he is growing up and becoming more self-assured.

On another note, I don't recommend feeding sprouts all year round if that is what you do.

Axel will be 3 in June. Then let me ask you this. Before I got Winston he started all this. The first sign was he was lifting his foot and grabbong his toy on the ground. 2. When He was with me on the bed he grabbed my hand and pull himself into my hand so his vent was rubbing on my hand. And for what I read it states thats they will diplay like he his doing for a female and to try and keep other males away.
As for the sprouts I give them to them twice a week. T
The sprouts just have a small tail coming out.

You already have a good diet for them. That is great.

Well, parrots that were raised on soy (first handfeeding formula and then pellets) do mature earlier than they are supposed to but, as far as my personal experience goes, only parrots that are overly hormonal masturbate on their owners. I only had one parrot that did that. It was my first rescue and the poor thing was kept at a human light schedule, free-fed seeds and touched improperly all the time but once I learned and improved my husbandry, I haven't had a single one doing it (and she stopped, too). As to sprouts... well, if you think about it, they only appear in nature during the growing season (which usually coincides down to the minute to the birds breeding season) so I only feed them when the breeding season is already on. I am going to start adding them (also twice a week) next week (I am going to ABBA this Saturday and will stock up on hemp seed, sprouting mix, freeze-dried mealworms and baby food for the canaries).
