He came home Sunday. I had no idea I was getting him! Talk about a surprise! I also felt a bit weird telling you all because of the situation and the whole rehoming issue that I am now guilty of.

As for the Cape being cooler than the Jardine's... we'll just have to see about that. We'll have to compare notes as they develop! I don't know anybody else with a Jardine's and it's not so easy to find information about them online. I do know that if my Jardine's poops on the blinds, it'll be easier to clean up than Truman's poop!

I've handled some Jardine's at my bird store and I gotta tell you they are really sweet. They seem to like being held and touched. However, the ones at the store wouldn't step up and were really skittish. I assume the store puts the same effort into Jardine's as Senegals so it seems the Senegals are much more confident about being held whereas the Jardine's get scared easily. But they do like being held close and pet. It calms them down rather than panicking them.

I chose to go with Cape because it satisfies many of the reasons I wanted a Grey (size, talking potential) while also having the incredible qualities of a Poicephalus.

I think 3/4" bar spacing is good for a Jardine's, 1" max but less desirable. I'll definitely want to see pics of the Jardine's near the Senegal Parrot for comparison. So how old is this one? Are you handfeeding?

Oh and here is your official reprimand that you seem to be waiting for: rehoming parrots is bad, don't rehome parrots, mkay.

Hmmm... I guess I can handle that sort of reprimand. But trust me, I'm being hard enough on myself.

The Jardine's is almost 4 months old and weaned. Look at me setting a good example and getting a WEANED baby parrot!

The Jardine's is 185 grams or so and Pippin is around 145/150 so he's really not that much bigger. So far the Jardine's is very clumsy and wants to be with a person at all times. He seems a bit nervous but that's to be expected since he's only been here two days. He does step up and he is very sweet so far. I've read they can be very beaky and bitey in the first year but so far he's been fine. Of course, once he's comfortable, who knows what will happen? I'm sure I'll get my fair share of bites and that's a big beak!

Nope... the breeder asked if I wanted him clipped and I said no thanks. I do appreciate that the breeder offers a choice.


Oh- and I actually got a bite from the Cape I was telling you about at the breeders. Didn't feel good I can tell you!

It is confusing indeed. But, I will not be doing that ever again. Far too painful and icky. These three are mine and nothing will change that. I am also going to stop fostering. I just have to accept that I can't save every bird I see in a bad situation.
