new baby

Postby tacotaco » Fri Jul 02, 2010 9:19 am

I have been looking to get a second fid for quite sometime now. I found a breeder in Florida that I've been in contact with for a while and I'm feeling very good about it. Around my area, it is difficult to find gold capped conures - I've looked at quite a few stores (no breeders around that I know of), including the place I got my nanday, Charlie. I've had no luck. I looked online and found 2 babies that were hatched on 4/13/10. The breeder has been updating me with some pictures and telling me how they are progressing towards being weaned. She's estimating about two more weeks and then is able to ship one to me. Before actually knowing a person that had a good experience with shipping (Michael!) the idea really scared the hell out of me. After Michael's cape and from what the breeder has told me, I feel better about the whole idea.

I bought a new cage (the same one as Charlie's) and it arrived at my house yesterday. I haven't given the breeder the 100% definite yet, because my parents are a little aprehensive about me getting a second parrot. I've been testing my parents for the last couple of weeks (even told them that it's already purchased, etc) and I'm kind of nervous about their reaction when I actually bring it home. I am positive that my Dad will get over it, my mom is the one of some more convincing. I'm 23 years old, I do still live at home - I pay rent and clean after my bird now, I don't understand the reasoning for my mom to be against it which is why I plan to still go forward with it. If worse comes to worse, I do have a place to move into. I do plan on telling the breeder to set me up with payment and flight info in the next few days. I did pick out a name already and I'm getting more excited everyday. :)

Hoping for the best..! Here are a few pics I have received. I will post more at a later time (I am on my work computer and it's all I have)

They're adorable! Congrats Kim! I'm sure your mother will be more open to the idea once your baby is home, it's hard not to love baby birds! What name did you pick? Do you know the gender yet?

And I'm assuming you were lucky enough to find a fiance that likes birds? ;)

Wow congratulations, those are some pretty birds. Do you know if the baby will be male/female? What names do you have picked out?

Not sure of the sex, the breeder doesn't sex them unless requested but I'd rather not put them through it unless it was absolutely necessary. I picked the name Lola.

My fiance is now not a fiance, we had some difficulties. We've been best friends for four years so it was tough but thats life, and life does go on (we are both better off and both doing okay). I will find one that does like birds eventually, if not I will be single for a long, long time which is also fine with me

Michael, I'm gonna butcher the wings off as soon as I get it. haha - i'm kidding!!! I honestly don't know and don't want to start another debate because we have enough of them on here :P I haven't made that decision yet and have discussed both ways with the breeder. I'll let you know.

Should be letting her know this weekend to start moving forward with everything - woohoo.

it's official! the baby on the left in the pics is now purchased and will be shipping to me in about a week. very excited!! i did pick the name Lola but soon found out after that 'Charlie and Lola' is a cartoon on tv. It's a british show but also aired here in the US - kind of made me bummed so I'm thinking of other names now! I do plan on it being a "girl" since Charlie is his pimp self that needs a woman lol. Anyway, more pics were being taken and sent to me asap so i'll keep y'all updated. (you can check out my blog for more details)
Other possible names on the list right now: Autumn (which i loved because of it's colors but seemed to get a mixed reaction about it), Zoey, Lilly, Layla, Martini, Delilah, Aria, Makenzie, Summer, etc etc lol Names are always hard.
