Now that summer is here, my step-daughter is spending more time at our house and when she spends more than a weekend with us, she brings her Cockatiel Charlie with her.
We got her Charlie for Christmas last year. He had a full vet check up a few days after we got him and got a clean bill of health. He hasn't been around any other birds, so we don't quarantine him when she brings him over.
However this is the first time that we placed his cage right in between Lucy and Jessie's cages. It has been an interesting couple of days. Charlie pretty much makes noise from the time he gets up until the time he goes to bed - he whistles, call's my step-daughter's name, etc. At times I'll admit it's annoying. While Lucy and Jessie have their noisier times of the day, they aren't constantly noisy.
Anyways, we have discovered that Jessie HATES Charlie! Whenever my step-daughter takes Charlie out of his cage, Jessie starts screaming and lunging at the bars of his cage. I also think he is annoyed by the noise, because he goes to the opposite side of his cage as far a way from Charlie as he can get and screams at him from time to time. Poor Jessie. I spent some extra cuddle time with him last night in my bedroom so he could have a bit of peace and quiet. I wonder if this is a sign of how Jessie would react if we brought another bird into the house.
Lucy on the otherhand I think is quite smitten with Charlie. Charlie's cage is smaller and lower and I have never seen Lucy spend so much time in the lower half of her cage. She wants to get as close to Charlie as she can. She is funny though, because even she'll say the odd 'Shut Up' when Charlie really gets going with the noise.
Anyways, just wanted to share. It's been interesting watching their reactions. I don't think Jessie will be sorry to see Charlie go home on Sunday
