Red Moppet wrote:You have beautiful birds Ellen, and take such beautiful pictures of them! :) Gorgeous.

I also envy your trip to Dr. Pepperberg's lab! What an experience. Did you see Griffin in action or meet Irene?

I love how Quakers always seem to have such chubby cheeks and bodies!

Thanks guys!

and Red Moppet. I met Irene several times, at the parrot palooza and also had dinner with her and some friends

when I was at the lab only her labmanager was there, Arlene.

Last April Irene was in Holland for a reading at the University in Utrecht and after that I had a personal meeting with her together with dr. Gerry Dorrestein (pathologist) and we went to the dutch parrot refuge together.

here we had lunch together

On the left it is Marianne, Gerry's wife, than Gerry, than me in the blue shirt, with my friend Frederique and sitting you see Irene.

Here another picture of Irene enjoying the park, with her lovely hat!

I felt very priviliged to meet her in person here in the Netherlands!

Wow Ellen, that is so cool! I must admit that after reading "Alex and Me" I really became quite taken with Dr. Pepperberg and her research and process. I'm not a scientist by any stretch of the imagination but I am a teacher and found Alex's demonstrations of his learning so fascinating. (hmmm.... I wonder if her techniques work on high school students?? )

Thank you so much for sharing your story and photos!

Wow, fantastic. That's incredible that you got to meet Dr. Pepperberg in person. I'm currently midway through the Alex Studies myself. Absolutely amazing stuff. Your birds look fantastic. Kind of a shame the research birds look so ratty, I'm sure that doesn't help with their campaign for doing testing on animals :?

Beautiful photos...what touched me the most was your lovebird. So beautiful I love the picture when his/her wings were spread out, it's like he/she was King of the Parrot World :)

Hi all, thanks! Irene is a very nice person. And I too am very interested in what she did with Alex. I agree with you Michael about the greys Alex and now Griffin that they pluck themselves. Dunno why exactly. But I do know that greys are very sensitive and now and than he has to move from the lab for vacation or remodeling the lab etc.. and that can give lots of stress, I guess.

Thanks!! that is my dear Piwi. He is quite old, 15 years. You can see it by the yellow spots he has in his feathers.

hi, as introduction to the photos I post the same text here as in my videos topic:

hi all, yesterday evening I saw something here with two of my birds, that was too cute and sweet.
It's all about my grey parrot Tommy and my quaker Paulie.
When I put Tommy on the playtree I see that Paulie wants to be there too. Because I train my birds to get used to each other I regularly put them together for some minutes. That is why they now are never aggressive towards each other. When I put Paulie on the playtree too, he immediately goes over to where Tommy is sitting. And Tommy was okay with that... till last night....

LOL

see it for yourself!!
