I was waiting for Deb to post pictures! Then I was going to add some more to draw the attention back to Pele. If I post them now then everyone will forget about him/her when Deb posts about the Cape!

Well Pele made a discovery! He has wings! He flew to me once in the first few days I had him and he flew around the room once when he was spooked, but other than that he's been acting like a clipped bird. I told his previous owners that he flew to me once and they were very surprised that he even knew how to fly (he's only been flighted since his last molt and they had him clipped for 9 years).

Well tonight you could almost see the light bulb over Pele's head when he figured it out! He flew to me once when I went to leave the room and all of the sudden he really understood that he could fly. I put him on his cage and he played for a while and then all of the sudden I had a conure on my head! I put him on his perch for a bit and after a few minutes there was a bird flying over my head into my computer screen. I guess he didn't calculate his landing very well. ;)

He's flown to my a couple more times over the last few hours. I guess I'll be revisiting the Can't keep newly flighted parrot off of me! topic again soon!

Even with the newly flighted parrot challenges we'll face I'm really excited that he's realizing he can fly. He seems pretty proud of himself.

Long overdue update on Pele!

Firstly and most importantly, Pele's vet check went well and is completely healthy. The most exciting thing was the result of the DNA test and I'm very happy to say that I have a little girl! After spending a few days with her it was obvious to me that 'he' was actually a she, but her previous owners that had her for 9 years were convinced she was a boy!

Things are going really well and she's settled in nicely. Her and Mojo have seen eachother from a distance but that's as close as they'll be getting anytime soon. They don't seem to really notice eachother though and I'm really happy about that, definitely better than them being upset at the sight of eachother. I've started target training her and she catches on quickly! She's definitely a great little bird. :D

Pele averages around 138-142 grams.

I'll have to post some more pictures but last night was my first time using flickr and I was getting frustrated!

What does Allegra typically like to play with? Pele has a bell toy that came with her that she'll play with but she typically leaves everything else alone unless she knows there's treats hidden in it.

And what kind of noises does she make? Pele has this little clucking kind of sound and this little noise that sounds almost like she's trying to speak, I can't really explain it. But her most favorite noise is that ear piercing scream! Unfortunately she does it when she's excited, which is typically when she's with me. She never screams just for the sake of screaming, but she'll scream when she's startled, excited, or wants something (she used to get given treats and food when she screamed... ). I'm trying to really encourage her other noises but there hasn't been much change yet.
