There are more ways. I know that they burn the end of one wing on young chickens to prevent them growing feathers due o scarring. But that is just as horibble.

But yes, you need to damage or remove the feather follicles to prevent them growing again. But his previous owner knew next to nothing about birds. So luckily that didnt quite work out.

And I thought pinioning was bad! That is absolutely inhumane. I don't think I'll be doing any research to find out the other ways, it will likely just make me sick.

Well I think that the burning of wings belongs in the same catagory as branding horses and cattle and docking sheeptails. Not something that will be really harmfull to the bird on the long run since most chickens dont fly a lot to begin with. But not something I would condone either.

But thats a whole different discussion.

Wow that is bad.... The easiest way to not clip your bird is to not put any scissors near their wings

Oh that poor thing... What an awful clip It is a darn good thing that the feathers grow back. And they will grow back so lovely

What a hack job! jake's feathers looked like this when we got him

For Parrots I heard that to permanently to "clip" a bird is to remove the last joint on the wing but I may be wrong...
