How have I missed these pictures before now? ;)

Regarding the length of the beak.

I find with Poicephalus, specially males, that the beak does tend to seem longer sometimes than it does with other birds.
In fact, specially with Joey, I find that it seems a bit too long but then the tip just slouches off on it's own and he goes back to looking "normal". No need for extra trimming, just provide him with plenty to chew on :)

Oh and to add, at one point I thought Joey might have had something wrong because of the length of his beak (I had actually questioned his previous owner about it before I bought him) and had my vet check for liver issues (I think I read that some birds with liver problems will tend to have beak overgrowth) and there was nothing wrong with him.

I just got used to it and seeing pictures of other Poicephalus, specially males, it seems to be the norm.

It's aluminum. It's just like Michael's as it turns out, except it has a playtop instead of a dome. He wrote a review of the overall features and construction that is pretty much spot on as far as I can tell. Was a very good value.

Right! Aluminium is also very good material for a cage. I too prefer a cage with a playtop!

So we've now seen him using that beak as a tool when eating. We won't let the vet mess with it. Some of my friends think I shouldn't be allowed around anything that pointy (I am sporting a walking boot for a broken foot I got climbing into the back of a truck -- for some reason they think I am accident prone) but since he's Bill's bird, that's OK. LOL.
