I can just see the next 'hot' topic now...

"Is it ethical to let your parrot do domestic chores"
Every parrot has a duty: To reduce the world to toothpicks.

I'm not sure how I missed this post either ... I missed a lot being away for 3 days and I'm still trying to catch up.

First off ... Congrats again and Scotty is beautiful! Cape's really have a unique and striking look!

Regarding the length of the beak.

I find with Poicephalus, specially males, that the beak does tend to seem longer sometimes than it does with other birds.
In fact, specially with Joey, I find that it seems a bit too long but then the tip just slouches off on it's own and he goes back to looking "normal". No need for extra trimming, just provide him with plenty to chew on :)

I agree with Natacha here. Even though Jessie hasn't been DNA sexed ... pretty much everyone that has seen him or pictures of him (including the vet) are all pretty sure he is male. When I had Jessie to the vet last month I was a little concerned about the length of his beak, but she wasn't concerned at all. Lucy being a female has a very dainty little beak and because she is a big chewer she maintains hers on her own without any help. Jessie isn't as big a chewer so that's why I was concerned about his beak.

These Cape parrots have such an uncommon beauty to them. It makes you stop and scratch your head a bit.
