I rescued a baby...

Postby a.susz » Thu Sep 02, 2010 12:31 am

parrotlet. She's 6 months old, and has already had a horrible life. At work we had her with her sibling, a boy. He bullied her to the point of ripping some toes off one day, so she only has one nail on her right foot. She is missing some feathers on top of her head as well. This all happened very quickly over one day 2 weeks ago. We placed her in her own cage with a teddy to snuggle with. She was beginning to start recovering. Tonight before I was heading out of work i noticed she was stuck upside down by BOTH feet. Both were trapped in the crease of the door. Crazy poor bird, feet were all swollen. So i decided to take her home for the night for observation and some peace and quiet. Hopefully she recovers soon, I have a feeling this may be permanent. 3 years working at this store and I have never felt this sorry for a bird. Seriously. :dancing3:

poor thing, good thing she has someone looking out for her.
Hope she feels better soon.

Oh dear never seen such a sadder looking parrotlet. Always such upbeat little birds. I hope she has a good recovery.

Oh poor baby! :( She looks so sad. Thanks for rescuing her...I think that qualifies as a 'true' rescue!

BTW...I just read that parrotlets do tend to attack feet and toes...even of much larger birds...so keep an eye out for that down the road - if they all have out time together...

thanks guys. I couldn't believe it when i saw it! Her feet are still tender, but she's using them so no injuries. she's just been eating and napping all day, but is just looking exhausted.. she is not hand tamed, so training will be a must as soon as she recovers. She has let us pick her up and hold her in the palm of our hands, and give head scratches. She really appreciates it. Pretty amazing for not hand tamed, but she was hand fed, so there's hope.
