Scotty and I

Postby entrancedbymyGCC » Mon Sep 06, 2010 2:27 pm

My husband is out of town for a week, so I'm monopolizing Scotty. I shot a couple of webcam pictures. He's turning into a total love bug, and his weight seems to be up despite the fact that I think he eats nothing. Although it was the first time I put him on the kitchen scale so I can't be sure it's calibrated as well as the vet's --- I got 300g on the nose.

Actually, I'm afraid he's going to wind up liking me too much. Can I prevent that aside from not handling him at all? He talks to me, but not to Bill. He is affectionate with Bill, but me he asks to step up and then he presses into my chest and snuggles his head under my chin. "Step up?", "Step up Now?" Earlier today I was holding him and he was exploring the back of my hand with his tongue and beak very carefully, and he said "Nibble?" I told him, no nibble!

He's something else! Now I'm entranced by two birds! But I mustn't be TOO nice to him, because I should NOT steal him!

Here we are, though:

Lovely photos! I'm afraid there is not much you can do if you are his chosen person though. Just make sure that your husband handles him plenty and maybe let him be the one to offer favorite treats.

You guys sure look sweet together though!

Aw! You guys look great together!

Nickel prefers hubby, but he doesn't want a bird. And she plucks - I think his lack of interest in her is part of the issue at this point.

So the last month I've been taking her out for 1-1 time with me (in the bedroom, or den, etc.). She's actually getting happier being with me...feathers are growing back (keeping fingers crossed!) and she's actually talking to me (in my presence!) and coming to me when she lands on the floor for pick-up (she managed to clip herself!)...

So, let hubby do the 'special' things with her...and your role would be more as the 'servant' than as the friend...

Someone needs a new avatar ;)

Capes don't tend to become one person parrots so if you and your husband both participate in care/interaction, the parrot should remain nice to both. Incredible birds aren't they?

He is adorable, isn't he?

I guess I am a little afraid he's leaning toward me simply because his friend at the bird store was a woman.

Michael, I will change my avatar when we are done with quarantine and I can get a picture with both birds. Scooter, although he seems a little cranky since Scotty arrived, is still my first love...

I have to say, this business of washing and changing shirts between birds is getting a little old! Two more weeks... I think.
