So excited!!! Meyer's update.

Postby Azure Hanyo » Sun Sep 26, 2010 9:18 pm

Sorry to post so incredibly much today, but something great and entirely unexpected happened. I was sitting next to Jovie's cage just now. I started talking to her, and I offered her a treat. She happily (and VERY gently) took it from my hand with her beak, and clambored down to the cage bottom to eat. After eating she climbed back up and watched me, chattered a bit in a happy-sounding way, whistled, and then...

She tried to regurgitate for me!!!! This is so great! Maybe I can even start trying to handle her tomorrow? I don't want to rush, but I think she definitely likes me! Oh I expect so many nips...so much sass. Bahahaha I love sassy birds, what can I say.

(I edited my first post 'cause I misspelled "regurgitate"...bahaha in case anyone cares. No? Didn't think so...)

Curse you, Gooseblossom!!!! You and your notions of Jovie being permanent...

(Psst, wanna come to Ohio and convince my husband he doesn't really want a bird for his own someday, he just wants his wife to have the four she does now??? You know...I don't even think he wants one THAT much anyway...)

It's all about love and providing a better life for a little creature that can't take care of herself. Besides, she's a little cripple. How can he deny her a chance for a happy and healthy life? Besides, if you have 3, one more little beak to feed and little heart to warm is not so much. To allow such a tiny creature to be a member of your family would be a significant contribution to man's humanity. All he has to do is say yes, and an angel has a chance.

How's that so far?

He isn't mean really he's a great guy!!!! But he said I could take her on as a foster, and keep her until we found her a good home. Those were the conditions of me being "permitted" to take her in... Which gives me an idea. "Oh honey...we found her a good home!" And when he asks where... "Right here, silly!!!!!" :P I would help them all if I could. I really would.

My husband is fine with Cloud and Archimedes, but honestly he is afraid of Galileo, and I am sure he will be just as afraid of Jovie. The beaking and nips scare him. He is working on it, but Galileo still bullies him sometimes because she knows he is timid around her, and I know if her little hello nip to me were any indication, Jovie will be the same way. He let me get Galileo (when I already had Archimedes for nearly 2 1/2 years now) and told me no more birds, as he eventually wanted a small bird for his own and 3 was our "limit". Then Cloud needed a home when the bird he was put into a cage with attacked him. My husband again told me no more birds...

If I can convince him to let me keep Jovie, this time *I* will say no more birds. I know my limit, and I don't want to rob them of the one-on-one interaction they seem to enjoy (except Archimedes, he likes a few scratches a day and he's good). But I think you're right (and ptuga said it too methinks) Jovie is happy here, and hasn't shown any hint of fear since we brought her home. I think she is going to stay, but I am waiting for Chuck to sigh and say, "Fiiiine Heather one more bird...." And really, that would be all we have room for without the fids taking over the whole living room!

That is encouraging that he wanted a small bird of his own. He wants to love a little feathered creature. Jovie's circumstances are exceptional, so it sounds like ya'll will adopt her afterall. (I like your position that she has already found a good home!) And maybe one day he will get a little feathered friend of his very own, so I wouldn't rule out 5.

We were looking into maybe in a couple years getting him a linnie, but when Cloud came to us Chuck decided to not look into it anymore. I think he still secretly wants a bird of his own... But he is making progress with Gal, so maybe he will be friends with Jovie, who knows! :D

We'll see. ;)

This is excellent news! Perhaps all she needed was somebody that would give her respect and attention. I hope it continues to go well!

While she is happy with you, I actually think that *only fostering* is a beautiful thing to do. If I could keep them all, I would too. If you find her a well-qualified, happy forever home then that leaves room for another bird to be fostered and helped to find a forever home, and so on...
At least that is what I told myself when hubby let me foster the cherry-heads. I do it through a rescue which helps though (they provide cage, food if needed, support, vet care, processing of potential adopters etc.)
Of course I am struggling greatly with my fosters and foresee needing to find a better qualified foster mom for them, but that's a whole other topic...
