kind of cool, saw it at the zoo hanging off of a cage that had a fake macaw in it.

Thats a very clever thing to hang up in a zoo. Always a good thing to educate people!

yes! they also had a huge board that said "Still interested in buying a parrot?" and had every point of why some people wouldn't be good bird owners (it brought up noise level, healthcare costs, it explained that not all parrots can speak, etc) I tried to get a picture but it was all blurry :(
thought it was a good idea for anyone to read though, i was happy to see it!

I love it! I wish I could have had that sign up in the pet store I worked at.

this is so great, you know people go to zoos and just think... i want a monkey, a crocodile, a kangaroo, a giraffe... and a macaw! so unrealistic. lol

Would love to see a pet store with that  but in all honesty I think if you eductate people in all aspects Good and bad, most will make the right decision.

Its no different to having kids. Had one of my wife's female friends ask me if I thought things would change much when they had kids

I must just be really lucky with the price that I get Sadie's food at in bulk. I've spent $20 on pellets and I still have plenty and I got her in May (I keep them in separate ziplocs so that they don't get stale all at once). And fresh food is not bad if you just shop the sales, probably totals up to be $15/month... $730 sounds crazy to me for a year when mine is looking at about $220 a year.

But anywho, agreed with the above comments, it's good to make people think twice about getting a parrot. I don't think it's necessary to try and scare people away who want a parrot for the right reasons, but just don't have all the money in the world.

It did have a macaw in the cage, I would have thought that would be a lot more expensive food wise than our lil sennies

True. Doesn't seem like an average to me then. If it wants to apply to all parrots, it needs to include all the smaller species in the average too!
