Just an update about Mr. Darcy.......OMG What a bird!
I think I must be the luckiest parrot owner. He has had NO problem adjusting.
The breeder did not send any pellet samples with the bird, so he arrived with only a few slices of fruit in his travel cage. When I picked him up at Air Canada Cargo in Vancouver, it was an unseasonalby cold day, rain and about 10degrees celcius. He had been in the travel cage for about 7 hours......I thought it may turn out to be like a Monty Python skit....but when they handed me the cage, he came right up and made a little squak.
I had packed some treats, carrots, raisins, almonds, pumpkin seeds and Harrions Pellets. I also grabbed the water bottle I bought for his cage(I dont know if the breeder used one) He was so sweet, he right away ate the pellets carrot and loved the raisins. He drank from the bottle after I showed him how to. When I got home he stepped up onto my hand.....(and into my heart!! corny)
He eats everything, rice, broccoli, noodles, pellets, corn, and I have been using Abba green with his pellets and hot water to fill him up a bit. He only weight 143gm and adults should weigh about 165gm. but he has gained 3 gms over the week here.
I have NOT been pooped on......yet! He has learned to turn around on his perch, kiss on command and sometimes make the kiss sound. He fetches a coin into a dish and comes on command...He is not scared of anythng, he has tried on his aviator harness once. The only thing he has been leary about was a pine cone...
He does use his beak alot but I think it is because he is a baby and still unsteady.....And he gives the Gos Hawk a run for his money in the flight department!! OMG
