Flock update!

Postby zazanomore » Thu Nov 25, 2010 2:44 pm

First off, I lost the cord to my camera. So many cute videos that I wish I could share with you guys...oh well.

So, does anyone remember when I was deciding on a new cage for Einstein? Well, I've finally come to a decision. I'm actually going to buy two new cages. One for the budgies, and one for Einstein.

I chose the elite-pets flight cages: http://elite-pets.com/A36.asp

I chose it because after reading around on the board, I found that longer cages were better than higher cages. The cage is missing come features though, like stainless steal cups, the cup doors that slide rather than have a latch, and there's no seed catchers.

But, the cups can always be replaced, and I can always buy those little metal things to keep the doors closed.

I think the birds will enjoy them. And they will match, which will look really good.

They have a similar model at petsmart, but for a hundred more (for the black), plus it doesn't ship in Canada. At least this company is Canadian.

Anyways, some more updates.

I think Einstein is going through puberty. He opened his wings and I think he was doing the nasty to my shoulder. It was kind of awkward, so I put him back in his cage to cool off a bit.

I recently replaced the regular wooden perches in all the birds cages, to rope perches, and various different types of real branches. (All bought from petsmart).

At first, the budgies were scared of the new branches, and only stayed on the rope perch. (They know what rope perches are because there is on in Einstein's cage, and whenever they get the chance, they sneak in and perch on it.

2 days have passed, and they finally love them! Nothing like the feeling of real bark under their little feetsies.

I also bought Einstein a couple more toys, and he FINALLY has a favorite. It's almost exactly like: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.j ... ys+to+Shop but with a bell on the bottom. He shakes it, he chews on it and I bet he could play with it all day! I'm definitely going to be buying more of them.

Another important update, Einstein has become less picky, and is actually enjoying eating his fruits.

That's the cage I bought for Disney. Only I bought the one for sale on E-Bay, which I found through another posting on this forum. It arrived after a couple of weeks, the seller said it got held up in customs, and when it did arrive two pieces were bent. It's hardly noticeable though, I love the cage. It is the large size I wanted with feeder doors. Plus I really enjoy the large door. Disney makes use of the whole cage, however he does mostly stay in the top. He has a triangle shaped cozy thing to sleep in, which he loves! and a large circular bent wood perch that goes from one end to the next. He does meander there on occasion. Lots of room for me to play around with and make fun.
I wish someone would make a cage this size that has feeder doors and a breeder box door and is safe and strong, without the nuts and bolts. It would seem a simple thing to do.
But for the size I think this is a good one.
I bet your birds will enjoy it as much as Disney does.

Sounds like your flock is doing great! I'm wishing Scooter's cage had more width... but I don't think that one is as deep as I'd like. And then what would I do with his current home? Get a smaller bird? Bad idea! Bad idea!

Front to back measurement, not the top to bottom. Sorry, that was rather ambiguous...

Maybe by the time mine rusts someone will make a similar one of nicer quality. I would surely spend more money on it if they did.

Also...since I consider myself "one of the flock", I need to add my own update...I just got back from seeing the prince of darkness! My mom decided she didn't want to go, so I ended up going with my stepdad to see Ozzy in concert. Very exciting! And my ears are still ringing!
