Is it a GCC or a termite? Or maybe a chainsaw?

Postby entrancedbymyGCC » Fri Dec 10, 2010 5:38 pm

I am working at home today. Before I went off to lunch, I made Scooter a new toy. It was a Christmas toy. It had 4 red and green balsa blocks, 2 hardwood stars and a bunch of hardwood beads, with a rattle ball at the bottom. Came home from lunch. All gone except the beads. All. Gone.

If it can be destroyed, it will be destroyed.

I don't mind it being destroyed. I am a bit disturbed by it being destroyed almost more quickly than I could make it!!!!!

 I could only wish for rainbow to chew that much! I've noticed she is only interested in chewing stationary objects and not hanging toys. Balsa is definetely a favorite around here as well but she gets bored of one texture easily and even semi-hard woods are basically ignored... I've been relying on perches cut from the lemon tree out back and wicker baskets to keep her chewing

don't know how related this is but, is there any advantage to giving them cuttle bones to chew on? what is so beneficial about cuttle bones? calcium, wear their beaks down? i don't hear of them being mentioned any more?

Scooter has a cuttle bone. He seems to enjoy rattling it against the cage more than chewing it, though. My understanding is that they are good for beak grooming, like other chewing, and supplement calcium a bit. I think of it more as a toy, though, than anything else. They do seem a bit old-school somehow.

My budgies love their cuttle bones. However, Einstein seems to always ignore his.

I've found that people usually keep cuttle bones for small birds, finches, budgies, lovebirds, and canaries more than with larger birds.

Well I think the thread had gone as far as it was going to go! So tie it in knots if you like!
