Kylie Likes Me!

Postby lzver » Mon Dec 13, 2010 10:18 am

I'm working from home today and had Kylie out while I was doing some work on my laptop and guess what .... she regurgitated for me. Awww ... I love you to tweetie Of course its not a good idea to encourage this behavior, so I backed off when she did it. But for the hour that she was out she did it every time I went over to her and gave her scratches. We're also making progress with step-ups as well. When she first came home with us, she was understandably nervous and for quite some time wouldn't step up reliably. Over the past few days, I definitely see a noticeable improvement.

It has been almost 2 months since she joined our flock and she clearly likes me over anyone else in the house ... she is still a little skittish around my husband and step-son.

Hey Izver, a couple of things come to mind, you refer to Kylie as a she, are you sure ? The regurgitating thing is something that males do to show their mate that he can feed her and the babies. Yes i realize that a hen will do it to as a form of bonding but the way Kylie keeps insisting on it reminds me more of a male behavior. The other thing is that this is probably a seasonal thing and may diminish later. I also see that you havn't had Kylie very long , is he/she immature, Kylie maybe just trying to seal his/her bond with you, just my 2 cents worth, Richard PS it is that time of year

All valid questions captwest. Kylie is 2 1/2 years old and DNA sexed female. I know I just adopted her, but I adopted her from her original owner and got all her paperwork with her. My female Red Belly does it to me as well. This isn't the usual hormonal time for Lucy and Jessie, but could very well be for Kylie.

I'm just happy to see a relationship developing with Kylie. I am the primary care giver, but that doesn't always mean a bird will bond with me.

This is great news! Nothing like a little bird vomit to make you feel loved!

It's awesome that she's fitting in so well and feeling loved and comfortable enough to share her food with you.
