Cutest thing EVER!

Postby allpetbirds » Fri Dec 17, 2010 4:30 pm

OMG. We just witnessed Goffie do the cutest (and strangest) thing!

Yesterday, my husband found a raven with a broken wing on our fence. Since then, he's been feeding him (not touching, though) and the raven has stayed on the fence.

Today, it's raining outside and the raven is on the fence under a tree right outside our window behind our couch.

I was sitting with Goffie on the couch, and all of a sudden, he jumped up to the back of the couch over by the window and said, "See the birdy?"

My husband and I looked at each other like what?

And Goffie said again, "See the birdy?" and got all excited. He started talking to the raven saying, "Whatcha doin'?"..."Whatcha doin', birdy?" and he started saying "Come on..." (like step up) ..."Come on..." ... "Wanna take a bath?" (lol, the rain)... and then "Pretty birdy."

My husband and I were shocked and we totally wish we caught that on tape. I think my heart grew two sizes. I don't even think I've ever heard him say "Whatcha doin birdy" or "pretty birdy" before.

Was that his way of saying, "Can we keep him?" :D

Just thought I'd share! :)

AMAZING! Thanks for sharing this here. Made my day! They really are amazing. But it's another catagory altogether when they verbalize things. I once woke Jimmy the Nanday up real late to do a show for a friend. He sleepily complied. Afterward I set him temporarily on his play perch area and dropped my jaw a few seconds later when he was slowly pacing back and forth there, head hung low and muttering 'go back in the cage, go back in the cage'. Wow! Please continue to post these things as it makes my heart grow twice it's size too!

WOW - what an impressive & darling event! Thanx for sharing it. & I love your avatar - the family photo - too darn cute. :)

Not sure if you've seen captwest's posts about his attempts to "befriend" a raven, but when he sees this post, he's gonna be awfully jealous!!

My jaw literally fell down! A lot of people disregard parrot speech, saying it's always just mere mimickery (spell?), but I really do think that in some cases, birds can comprehend what we are saying.

You should be very proud of your cockatoo!

That's AMAZING! :o

I've always thought parrots would be able to verbally respond appropriately in a certain context. But to build up their own phrases apart from their regularly reinforced responses, that would be absolutely remarkable. I'm blown away!
