The kitchen sink is not a bath!

Postby iknowwhatiknow » Sun Dec 26, 2010 4:59 am

Rory was sitting atop his cage, as he always is while I wash up. He still hasn't grown his feathers back after the breeder clipped him, so his 'flights' are usually more like 'falling with style' than anything else, usually no more than a couple of metres.

Today though, I'm washing up, I hear a noise, glimpse a feather, and then suddenly - there he is, in the sink. I scooped him up pretty quickly, and immediately turned on the cold water to wash him off. He's lucky I don't like the water hot, and it was only warm in the sink. Much to his dismay, I pretty much soaked him to the bone to ensure that there's no sign of washing up liquid on him, and luckily, I'd just started, so the water was clean.

I hope he was trying to fly to me and missed his landing, but the bird is so obsessed with water, I think that he probably saw the suds and wanted a bubble bath.

He's sitting on my shoulder, soaking and sulking now. Silly conure.

Ah the Conure sulk, isn't it the greatest! Glad you rescued your little friend! *falling with style*, great defining phrase!

I've heard conures are not supposed to like taking baths, read it somewhere on the internet, but Disney loves baths! I plan on letting his flight feathers grow out, but right now he still "falls with style" as well.
I bet your guy was trying to fly to you.

Don't think this is true either, all the conures I've had love baths and need it as part of a healthy life, even the breeder for all her conures- different species puts in big and bold "Offer a bath to your conure EVERYDAY"

Probably what you read was someones experience with their conure in a way they didnt want a bath. like some birds prefer a mister spray and some like a tub, others just enjoy the stream from the shower. maybe it was that....

I read the subject and immediate thought "Oh yes, it is!" Scooter gets excited whenever he hears running water. One of my conure books calls them "water babies" so I think you must have misread the description. They are wet-climate birds.

Rory used to actually get a bath in the kitchen sink when he wanted to, but I stopped it after he started screaming with excitement every time that tap ran. Now bath time is in a bowl, or in the shower or bathroom sink.

They ARE water-babies. I'd say Rory bathes at least four times a day.

Bobbin loves baths. She has a birdie bath, but sometimes, when I forget to put it in her cage, she will end up bathing in her water bowl. She also has to dip every single pellet of Roudy Bush in her water, so when she bathes in her water bowl, she is bathing in Roudy Bush soup!

My Hahn's loves to bath...he flys over to the sink when the water is running to get in. I hold my hands under to cup the water or fill a shallow dish. It is really good for their feathers especially with the dryer air in the homes with the furnace going often....
