Crews hill , London

Has anybody else on here been to crews hill ? It's a big garden centre town with alot of pet shops and what they called bird centres. They were disgusting, one place had lots of parrots of all types , living in a dark damp room in small dirty cages , all with just sunflower seeds and really dirty water. It was strange to be surrounded by parrots yet no noise or activity, just a buck of vey subdued parrots. Very sad. Thought I would take my son there to have alook about , although he's only 9months he is fascinated with bill our amazon. Wish I hadn't bothered, just want to go back and buy them all and show them what life can really be like , although not quite the same as flying round a jungle, but better than a small dirty cage. I don't know why in England most pet shops that sell exotics are dirty, if you look at the American bird stores on you tube they are fantastic, all the birds are out and in nice clean areas and look very healthy. Its not like the shop owners don't have time , in both shops the owners were just sitting reading the paper!!! Won't be going back!

That's awful.

I've yet to see in person any real bad pet stores.

i was in a petstore today... even though i know better i couldnt help myself, i had to go in and see the birdies and knew upfront i would be very dissapointed. although the cages werent necesarily dirty it was strange to see all these parrots sooooo quiet. only the finches were making noise. no proper food and dirty water... and a drunk guy banging on the side... was just about to tell him to stop when he walked out. nobody cared.

how can a store that sells that many bird toys only put one little toy in per cage?? each cage had atleast 5-6 birds, mixed. some obviously didnt like eachother and some looked scared and some just looked crasy.

I have been there infact that is where i bought perky from a clearwing opaline yellow female budgie.
They have like a place where they keep kittens to sell right opposite the aisle of parrots don't they. The parrots looked lost and depressed and when they saw me it was like the first interesting thing in their lives. I originally went there to buy a parrot but as the shop was so severely over priced i couldn't afford one so i was happy with 1 budgie. Then like a year after i went to an amazing shop in shoots garden centre in stanmoore to buy an australian dominant white faced pied blue budgerigar. The shop in crews hill is severely unhygenic and i found out that the some birds there have been given away by owners to the shop which i found shocking. Bear in my mind this was like 2 years ago.
