New hand-feeded 'tiel!

Postby Margaret » Mon Mar 21, 2011 4:00 pm

Chico or Chica was hatched at the beginning of February, so (s)he is about 6-7 weeks old. (S)he came to us from trusted pet store(I know- not breeder, sorry), when (s)he was hand-feed.
We continue hand-feeding and there is the most excited moment of having a bird so far.

Who guess sex of my beauty? ;)

And there (s)he is on my shoulder:

(S)he like to spend time with me:

Chico in his/her cage: the little "object" trying to eat on the bottom on the left lower corner close to water bottle is our handsome ;) We hang everything low so far since (s)he is a baby.

Since our new baby is new we keep him/her in bedroom- place- where so far any bird was not allowed to be...
But we also feed baby on the desk with computer- to make a picture with syringe I need a second person, so here is introducing him/her to veggies:

What do you think?
We are happy. I have to double my time, to make sure budgies will not be jealous- that won't be a good start... I have to wake up about 1 hour earlier because "baby" in the morning want to eat/doesn't want to eat....
I'm not complaining :D :danicing: :D

I loveeee cockatiels! Your going to have so much fun!

Does (s)he make any vocalizations? I know females do make contact calls and some sounds, but males tend to be a lot louder.

Baby bird pictures are so cute. I love his little head.

Vocalizations
When (s)he is hungry - crying: it sounds like screeching
When (s)he want to sleep- the same but more quiet way
When I'm coming home and saying: Hi budgies, like I used to, first respond budgies and then I hear whistle from my bedroom :)
When (s)he is sitting on my shoulder sometimes gives quiet noise, pleasant.
Bird whistle a lot, when I'm leaving a bedroom, (s)he whistle to me - it's just one short whistle, but something.
Chewing is what Chico loves, and scratch my shoulders with this tiny nails ;)

That's the best I could do so far with pics ;) :

She's adorable! I love the vegetable picture :)

It's possibly a girl from the lighter orange patches, but maybe it's just the picture?

I miss baby tiel sounds :(

Update about Chico- we call him/her that name.
One more noise- teeth grinding. I have read about tiels doing that, before, but I didn't know they are doing it so loud. Before Chico goes to sleep and sometimes after food.
Chico very fast started to refuse baby formula- specially in the morning. Right now he/she eats mixture of budgie pellets+seeds+veggies: broccoli, carrot, apple, alfa-alfa sprouts and spinach.
Baby formula only in the evening and every day he/she eats less. Sooner or later I'm gonna miss that "baby crying" for food ;)
He/she whistle a lot to us, one evening even to our surprise he/she whistle back to somebody whistling in the movie :D It was cute!
Budgies seems to show some interest in what's going on in the other room, but Chico not. We are on quarantine, so I can't introduce birds to each other.
Only one sad thing: Chico came with clipped wings. I don't like it, but what can I do... waiting. The owner of the pet store called us already couple of times to ask if everything is okay and if we have any questions. He answers for all my questions very patient.
Chico loves my shoulder, all my jewelery around(wrr..), he is good shredder machine, so far he reacts for: "step up", "come here" and "buzi"- the last one means "kiss" in Polish ;) He loves when we rub his head- then he/she puts his/her head little down and makes little delicate pleasant noice.

I'm checking his/her droppings every day. Today he/she finally learned to drink water from the bottle! Every day I love him/her more!
