LOL miss pirate lady. Part of bird’s interactive behaviour is playing “Bird-Fetch”. He’s wanting you to play with him. Your bird is throwing the things, wanting you to get them, give them back to him, so he can throw them again, to have you get them again, and again, and again. This is one of the ways they playfully interact, and another thing which results in your bird “bonding” to you.
I learned about this from my studies of parrot behavior. I thought it was very interesting. And I put it together with, some people throw things (bird foot toys) for their bird to chase. At first, I didn’t know why my bird started dropping his foot toys at times, as soon as I gave them to him. I would pick them up and give them to him again, and he would drop them again, looking at me. I thought he didn’t want the toy at that time. Then I read about “bird-fetch”, in a parrot book I have; it’s in the section on behavior and interaction for them. Ya know when you want your dog to fetch a ball or stick you throw, and bring it back to you, so you can throw it for him again, so he can run after it again, and again, bringing it back to you to throw again? …… For birds, it’s the same thing, only reversed. They’re wanting you to fetch.
When I learned this, I started doing this with my parrot, and he has so much fun, and he says, “WWWEEEE!!!” when he throws his toys off of the top of his play-top cage. I get the toy, I throw it up in the air, and I say, “WWWeeeee!!, Mama get it !" – a few times, and he follows it, up and down, and says, “wwweeee!!”. Then I throw it, and say, “Baby! Get it!”. As soon as I throw it across the top of the cage, he RUNS!, gets it, & throws it back at me, and says, “wweeee!!!” …. And this happens a few times in a row. Try it! You will see a very adorable, and fun-loving personality come out and develop in your bird; while doing this with him, you will begin to see such love and happiness in his eyes; and, he will be glad that you understand and have caught on, and he will respond. He is wanting you to interact with him.
Baby is my parrot's name.
