Is that a hamster? Is that a ball? It's a Parrotlet!

Postby Ilovebirds » Sat Apr 23, 2011 2:11 pm

Amy my Parrotlet likes to go in a hamster ball and roll around the house. Sunny (Jenday) and Sun Shine (Sun Conure) like to chase her when she is in the ball. Of course a young smaller parrot can move faster and fit in spaces other birds can't so I have this real finny story from yesterday:

Yesterday when I came home from school (my sister's school, I volunteer there) I opened the door and Amy was in her ball because my mom put her in. She rolled to the door and stopped but since she was in a ball she kept moving and stopped about a inch away from my shoe. She stood there and watched met take my jacket off and take my shoe off. I walked over to my room and was greeted by Sunny on my bed and Sun Shine on the ground playing with a pony. Amy came in the room and she rolled under my bed and then Sunny jumped and went under the bed. Amy came out and wentover to Sun Shine and Sun Shine opened the door for Amy and she got out. Sunny came out and tried to go inside but he was too big.

Have your birds ever done something amazing?

Also before any one says any thing, Amy (Parrotlet) is not at any danger near the Conures. They treat her as if she is there baby. She is not hostile near them, and she looks more comfortable with them instead of me.

P.S. They are all potty trained so they go back over to the cage when they need to -blam!-.

Honestly, a parrotlet can beat the crap out of a sun or jenday conure.

I am SO serious. Luckily, they're too small to hurt the conures. My conures run from Bubbles (p'let). Bubbles literally jumps on their backs or nips them and runs after them making that little angry chattering they do. The conures RUN.

My daughter's laughing right now because it's so true.

Suns and jendays are "complainers" but they're not mean birds. You know what I mean? So when a parrotlet opens up a can of whoop on them, they back down/run they don't generally fight back.

How did u potty train them so well? ALL three of my parrots have always pooped on command buti haven't figured out how to get them to go home to potty. That'd be awesome! I want to get a hamster ball for my conure shes a fireball. Does your parrotlet share a cage with any of your birds? :monk:

This is not completely true. One of the most aggressive birds I have is a sun conure (and he is the same way with other birds -he actually takes on the cockatoos which are more than twice his size-
not only with me).
