Kili vs Truman

Postby Michael » Thu May 19, 2011 9:44 am

I'm constantly amazed how vastly different these two are. Truman is fearless, gets hurt all the time, and never learns his lesson in the process of it. Kili on the other hand is more dainty. She won't poop anywhere but where she's supposed to, she doesn't step in her own poop, she keeps very clean and is never smelly, and she's always really careful not to get hurt. On the flip side she is really aggressive and takes advantage of anyone who's scared of her. But really she's a terrible chicken and the first to fly away in the sign of danger. Truman isn't aggressive unless you really push him too far and then he turns really vicious and won't back down. Kili bites more preemptively. Truman loves his toys and can play for hours and ignore everything else. Kili is more concerned with food and only plays with toys when noone's looking.

I have no idea if this is a species thing, sex, or personality but these two are like polar opposites of each other.

Do you see contrasting differences with your parrots? How different have you seen two parrots of the same species get?

Mine are polar opposites as well. Apple is the grumpy old man and Spice is the annoying immature girl who loves to follow and bug Apple as long as I allow them out together.

You know, I wonder if it's a Senegal thing? Pippin is also very clean and neat... his feathers are never out of place, he's always glossy and just, well put together. Rupert, on the other hand, always has feathers out of place, falls off of tables, falls off of perches, has no fear and also never learns his lesson. And this is a flighted bird yet he still falls off of tables!!!

My 2 tiels are different in personality. Audi is hyperactive, inquisitive and doesn't like to be pet.
Whereas P is more docile, not so busy body and enjoys scricthes.

I would actually say that Lucy and Kylie are the cleaner out of all my birds. Jessie is my clumsy bird ... he plays rough all the time and falls from time to time.

At the same time, Lucy is my inquisitive little trouble maker.

All three definitely have different personalities.

All three of mine have totally different personalities as well, but I'm not sure if it's because they're all different species, clipped vs flighted (kind-of), gender, or what.

Bucky is vocal, messy, and mean to all other birds and people he knows and doesn't love. If he doesn't know someone he's pretty friendly unless they're entering his cage or trying to take him down from a shoulder - especially the shoulder of someone he loves. If he knows someone but they're not one of his "chosen" (i.e., my son), he's really mean. Doesn't really play, but shreds tissue and preens string like it's going on stage.

JJ is nippy, but really friendly. She seems to like everyone, but also seems to prefer my company to anyone else, though I'm not 100% on that. For the most part she's calm, cuddly, quiet, and neat. She has never ever pooped on me - has held it for over an hour even as a baby rather than go on me, and keeps her feathers spot-on perfect. She LOVES to play and will fly rather than fight.

Posei is a ding-bat. He's in LOVE with JJ and would prefer to spend every moment of every day snuggled up beside her. She doesn't seem to feel quite the same way about him. :( If he starts preening her, she steps on him causing him to fall to the bubble-wrap in the bottom of the cage, where he pops up, runs to the side, climbs up and starts over again. I've seen him RUN the entire length of the house trying to keep up with her when she's flying to get away from him. He deserves the name "Lovebird," for sure. Like JJ, he loves to play. He's a daredevil and seems to think that just because he couldn't fly LAST time doesn't mean he wont be able to fly THIS time. When faced with danger (Bucky), he flies (falls) rather than fights back. Maybe because Buck is twice as big as Posei?

They're all just crazy birds. I can't wait until they can all fly. It'll make a big difference in their interactions.
