Wow, I like this forum branch. I’m agreeing here on some things too.
And OH MY GOD! WASHING BIRD WITH SOAP?! BIRDS CAN’T DO SOAP! OH NO! Yes! I do worry about some people have a lack of knowledge about birds and wind up killing their own birds! And three times a week!? That’s too much! Oh! that poor bird!!!!! Where the heck did she get the idea of to use soap!?!?!?
Ya know? Ever since I got my bird, I have even more of a love for birds. And I’d been studying bird behavior, and have also learned about how all their systems are so delicate. I even watch the birds outside, their behavior. And I feel so sorry for the birds outside at times, like in this high texas summer heat we’re having, when I see them outside, with their mouths hanging open. It’s because you know they’re panting, because there’s not much water around for them to drink and cool off and stuff, because of the high heat. My neighbor put a bird bath outside. And I pray for God to bring the water for the birds. There’s a scripture in the bible that talks about how god provides the food and worms and things for the birds, and they don’t worry what they shall eat, so he will provide for us, and we should not worry.
“friends with birds to chat with”: Me too Mum2rory – and you can tell someone or other people cute things your bird does all day long. It really doesn’t phase a person much, unless they have a bird bonded to them. Once if they ever have a bird bonded to them, they will understand how precious birds really are. Let them actually get a bird acclimated to them, and let them interact with the bird, with the bird starting to interact with them, seeing the cute things, and they’ll fall in love. Especially if they were to spend enough time with the bird to where the bird gets to the point of talking with them, when a bond starts to grow.
Some people who have birds are killing their own birds, due to simple lack of knowledge! I’ve heard stories!

. This is because they’re un-educated, because they buy their birds at either Petco or Petsmart. These companies do not educate people about birds, because all they want to do is sell animals to make money. They don’t care. I think it’s terrible, and a sad life for a bird. I think there should be some kind of regulations against that. The birds wind up suffering to death. If you buy your bird at a specialized parrot shop, THEY WILL educate you about the Do’s and Don’ts about birds. People have also bought fish home from Petco or Petsmart, and the fish died. No educating the people as to the fish’s needs, etc.
There was a lady who put her bird cage next to a fireplace in the winter DUUUHHHH, the next morning she woke up to dead birds. No fireplaces with birds! Not even any candles! There is something that comes off of the substance of the fire from fireplaces which kills birds. And some candles even have lead in the wicks, and the bird will get lead poisoning and die over a short period of time. These were on the list of Do’s and Don’ts which my parrot shop gave me and explained. That poor bird suffocated to death over night by the fire place.
Birds need temperature control, which is gauged by how we feel as humans. IE: Texas summer heat can kill indoor-born-and-raised birds. They are not acclimatized. Very different than outside birds, who from babies, were born in it, lived in it, and can survive it, and live their lives. There was a lady who put her birds in her cage out on her porch, because she was cleaning her oven. The birds died from the heat outside. She left them out there too long. My parrot shop told me in the kind of heat we get here, you can only have them outside for 10 minutes, for example.
Same with the winter. And there was a lady who had an apartment, and in the winter, for some reason, the heater wasn’t working in the upstairs part of the apartment. She left the birds up there in the cage. The birds froze to death overnight.
And a birds bones, all over, are so delicate, that people break their bones while handling them, and they aren’t even aware.
Soap!?!?!? EEEEEEEEK !!! And you’re suppose to rinse them down about every three weeks, NOT 3 TIMES A WEEK! And the only time any kind of MILD detergent or soapy stuff is used on birds, is if they have gotten oil on them (like from an oil leak) – and then – it should only be done by a professional who knows what they’re doing!
